How's the ferry situation now? I'll coming from other part of Indonesia & planning to cross over to Spore. Any issue if I walk in to buy ferry tic or better to book in advance. Hope to get some ground intel. Kamsia in advance.

Price of everything every year also increase, with or without inflation. I remember last time you say before, once upon a time booking in Batam only 250k - 300k or so. Look at today's pricing now...hehehe...compare with 1.4 to 1.8 juta. My salary + market inflation also never increase 4 to 6 times.

What i am trying to say is the interest i earned next year will be use to at least subsidize the amount of spending which i will be doing in Batam, & even more so when Batam increased its price.

Yes bro. Those were the days. Still remember with S$200 i could stay 3D2N. Thats why i dont like the idea of getting more rupiahs from exchange cos hotel, cewek, food and now ferry fares, would surely rise in tandem! So it really doesnt benefit me. I would rather the currency remain stable.

I love their sauna room where no one use or perhaps even know about,hehehe...can bring few girls inside to play gang bang,hehehe... i also can't remember how many girls in pop in that "room" already. :p

But noticed that the expiry date of the ticket was usually end June or end December. The validity of a normal ticket will usually be more than 6 months whereas a cheaper ticket had a shorter validity period between 1-3 months

When i made my 1st trip to Batam about 10 years ago, i have a small target. I hope to use cheonging to sustain my cheonging (i ever mention this nearly 10 years ago in my Batam trip summaries). Meaning without spending a dime, i can still have a good time.

Before covid time, i am almost there. Today, haiz...i need to reboot all that. Yes, i am spending "my own money" on the last few trips... even tho its lesser & lesser each trip but i am still a distance from what i used to be (in Batam).

Apologize for all the ranting above, i am just feeling so tired...hehehe...the feeling is like i build something "there" with so much time & effort. It just topples down over time.

My current conclusion : It's meant for bros who has money (lots of it) but do not have the time when in Batam.

And to answer your question. Yes, you should change rupiah in Batam.

But if you do not have a single piece of rupiah at all currently, would suggest you change small amount of rupiah in Singapore first ($50).

The most expensive place to change rupiah in Batam mostly offer better rate compared to Singapore. And most expensive place to change rupiah is none other than Batam Airport/Ferry terminal, major malls etc.

For better rates in Batam, just go to any single shop house-type of money changer to make your change. Always ask for the rate there first before deciding.

For the best rates, simply go to an area where there are money changer clusters. Competition among them usually offers the best.

If you use Grab app, you can use the existing balance in your Grab account to pay for your Grab booking. The online taxi pickup point is a short 3-4 min walk from HBB Starbucks exit... Of course, the conversion won't be the best rate if you pay via Grab. But, at least it enable you to get on taxi and take your time later to hunt for money changer near your hotel.

King’s massage had a staircase shortcut that leads to level 3.

I only know that there was a under-utilized gym in formosa hotel hidden near the staircase of level 3 at one corner if not mistaken.

Yes, (never try never know) it is good to always try out new hotel, grade them according to different tiers and put under your favourite hotel list if it satisfied your expectation.

Choosing the right hotel is important as it can made our stay more comfortable and gives us a good mood.

Below are some criteria:

1) Hotel with a good location made our trip more convenient, help save time and transport money.

2) Hotel with decent breakfast help save some money and without the need to go elsewhere to look for food which in turn help save some time.

3) Hotel with free shuttle service provide transfer to ferry terminal as well as shopping mall, thus save on transport fee

4) Hotel with in-house massage can be called to room for massage which is more comfortable and spacious plus can enjoy special service too and need not have to worry about the cewek moaning sound :D

5) Hotel with rooms in good condition like air-con working, good water pressure, drainage and flushing okay, room amenities provided, etc.

6) Hotel with room cleanliness acceptable standard with no pest and no bad smell. Formosa room used air fresheners auto spray at an interval.

7) Hotel with room that is not too far from the lift lobby if not will have to walk very long. Squarish floor layout like formosa is better than rectangular layout

Also if possible not to choose the last room of the hallway as it was seldom been used by hotel guest and everyone knows the reason..

However, everyone's criteria and priority for choosing a hotel is different.

Sometime I will review the hotel room I have stayed before, will record down the room number for the good one, whereas lousy one will be blacklisted hehe :)

He was also looking forward to joining the new hotel when it is ready next year.

Indeed formosa kitchen food really got some standard, price reasonable and best of all zi char ala cart was 24 hours..:D

On my last trip, I made the Deal of the Year: I booked Four Points by Marriott for some S$45/day 5-6 months before my trip, when just one month before my trip the price had increased to S$90.

Say you will give 15k before getting on bike. More than enough for a short ride. 20k only at night or for a longer ride.
It's not that 5k makes a big difference for us, but the normal price is that.

Yeah bro Blackpage. Like mj, pay to learn. From this experience, screened out 95% of them. 5% slowly distill to see if this taught me anything. Might still try 1 more time since still have 4 nights there and if I find one that doesn't ring the alarm bells.

What I learnt:
1. Those that ask for you sg number or deposit, just ignore. Highly likely scammers.

2. Picture too chio or obviously photoshopped, 99.95% fake.

3. Always state beforehand that if person turning up not same as photo, will reject and no rejection/taxi fee. This will stop those trying to earn a quick freebie. To be used with next point.

4. If they pass all the above checkpoints, they will ask for your hotel and room number and hotel registration name. ALWAYS give a fake room number and name. State that you will meet them at the lobby. This will give you a chance to check if they are real without being in a compromised position.

Honestly, I feel it's a waste of time to have to do all that for small or nil returns, but if you have time and feel lucky...

Full Review of 3D2N Batam trip (7pax) on 21st Oct to 23rd Oct:

1. Took Batam Fast coz im a smoker. Batam fast is still the only ferry that have non aircon seating and smoking corner.

2. Touch down went to eat Nasi Padang at Serderhana about $10/pax.

Main IMPORTANT INFO:

3. Visited 5 Booking joints at about 130pm (Number of girls is = those in front of me exclude the ones not working or have been booked)

(a) MM - 18 girls from 1.5 juta to 2.0 juta

(b) Hera - 13 girls from 1.5 juta to 1.8 juta

(c) Sekar - 33 girls from 1.3 juta to 2.0 juta

I missed out Sri Kandy price and number of girls coz busy trying to snipe the girls.

Most shops are open from 10am to 10pm. Don't come too early unless weekday coz many of the girls are not ready yet too and you wont see the full attendance.

4. Check in to Davienna Boutique Hotel. 2 nights $79 (peak period). Still the best hotel for me in terms of price, hotel room space & conditions and location. Girls no need to check in and can smoke in room.

Not much difference maybe 1 juta one slightly more hot or old bird. For overnight that u have to decide and discuss with the girl itself maybe 2.5juta to 5juta. Ordered 5 bottles of black label. Total dmg exclude girl is $140/pax just for drinks. Way cheaper than going to viet ktv in sg.
No tip for mamasan or waiter.

8. Yong Kee Fish Soup for Lunch for day 2. Best fish soup in batam for me. with other few dishes about $10/pax. After that find booking for cewek. As usual for saturday not much good quality choices but if can always book the day before too.

9. Then we went to Octopus Spa at Pacific hotel. Got 1 for 1 package for massage with hj for 275k. if alone then its 375k. Fj package is either 800k for gold tier or 1.1 juta for Platinum tier. Girls quality for fj way better than Hallo kitty.

10. End up at Bluefire Disco at night to chill. Suppose to go Hollywing but fullhouse for sofa. Need reservation for a Saturday night there.

Reason, during CNY 1st few days, more than 50% of money changer is closed. Ferry terminal & Airport (in both Singapore & Batam) has the worst ever exchange rate.

Batam immigrasi/customs seems to have changed their attitudes. Unlike pre-covid times the present batch of officers are not looking for undertable $$$ or purposely going out to find fault with you. They are more professional now and do their jobs by the book.

I asked an oldtimer Batam resident who was a retired civil servant about the changes in attitude of the immigrasi/customs. He told me that now the personnel are not locals but are brought in from other Indonesian provinces on rotation..... each batch usually stay about 2 yrs before rotating back to their home province.

I remembered you have achieve the gold card status.

I have both the physical silver & gold card tho, but rarely the chance to use them. The staffs there already recognized my face before i could take out my card. Normally when i join my friends or vice versa, i would pass those cards to them so they can get 15-20% on hotel food (include room service), massage & in Tea story.

I asked the hotel to give me A FEW MORE GOLD cards, hehehe...they turned me down. :D

Until today i still cannot figure out how a hotel with such good business & regulars can close down.

There are also quite a lot of people there "Long-Stay" in that hotels at a premium price too (usually on 3rd floor).


Because those safe box in the room can be carried away by strong burglar whereas formosa's centralised safe box is in the room jaga by the staff

Most of the safe box in hotel rooms i stayed in were more like a shoe box for me. I keep my shoe inside & then lock it up. When i need to step up of room, i unlock it, take it out, wear it & step out. (i rarely do that nowaday because its rather inconvenient if i need to rush,hehehe...)

The only useful thing i could think of for safe inside room is to prevent scent of my shoe from flowing all over the room. Especially my socks scent,hehehe....i create my own in-room safe.

Every time I cross the borders between Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, as well dozens of countries worldwide in all continents, I have a plastic bag (supermarket medium size) full of medicins of all types in my luggage. It's my emergency kit, in case I fall sick: antibiotics, painkiller, for cold, for fever, for wounds in case of accident, for this and that... The reason was COVID!
The owner of Formosa, Chinese from Taiwan, looked at PRC and understood before any other in Indonesia, and in most of the world, the storm that was approaching. He closed and ran away with money just 1 month before the lockdowns and border closures stopped any hotel business for 2 years. Many people lost all money, people lost job and savings, but not him. He ran away with all cash before the ship sank, leaving all workers without a job and a lot of people without their legitimate money. Smart but damn man.

There are no such burglars in Batam. They do not come with heavy tools to take your box out of the wall.
The purpose of the safety box in the room (better in the room than centralized!) is to have a place where to keep your passport and money when unknown people comes to visit you and spend the night there.
Whenever I have someone in my room, I want to go to shower relaxed without fearing I lose my money because one of the girls takes it from the drawer. The safety box (in the room) is ESSENTIAL.

NOTE: if there is no safety box in the room, and the centralized box is not convenient for things one wants to put and take quickly, the alternative is the luggage. Put your precious things in the luggage, close the zip and add security code. The girl will not leave the room overnight while you sleep, taking your big bag.
(I know you don't have a big luggage, so you have to excavate in the wall of the bathroom... Well, I prefer the safety box :D)

On my last trip, I made the Deal of the Year: I booked Four Points by Marriott for some S$45/day 5-6 months before my trip, when just one month before my trip the price had increased to S$90.

During July, when Singapore opens up, i recommended a few closer friends from Batam to sign up for HSBC credit card to get the FREE S$500 credit from Marriot group of hotels.

They were able to use it to stay in Marriot for about 2 nights OR in Four Points for 10,hehehe...all of them choose the latter (10 nights free stay at about S$50 a night). :D

Next time if got chance (or fate) to meet up, will pass you one piece of those S$1000 notes to play with too (the 2 notes still with me until the end of my trip). :p


What I learnt:

1. Those that ask for you sg number or deposit, just ignore. Highly likely scammers.

2. Picture too chio or obviously photoshopped, 99.95% fake.

3. Always state beforehand that if person turning up not same as photo, will reject and no rejection/taxi fee. This will stop those trying to earn a quick freebie. To be used with next point.

4. If they pass all the above checkpoints, they will ask for your hotel and room number and hotel registration name. ALWAYS give a fake room number and name. State that you will meet them at the lobby. This will give you a chance to check if they are real without being in a compromised position.

Honestly, I feel it's a waste of time to have to do all that for small or nil returns, but if you have time and feel lucky...


Good advise above, for those who are new & chose to be adventurous without exercising some common sense.

To me, Batam is like a bed of roses.

Need to budget about 1 juta for a shot, therefore they're just as good as Hallo Kitty in terms of pricing. Require negotiation with therapist too (meaning you will be the one to pop the GQ, not her).

Info on BCC above is base on pre-covid time, don't know MP still around or not tho.

Alternatively, there's still Venew Spa at BCH & Justme at Gideon in that area.

You still need at least 1.5 hour on all the above mentioned places tho.

Gojek quote me 9000 rupiah. Streetdside ojet might quote you 25k. But, you may want to bring your shower cap in case their helmet got powerful smell. Over 10 years of taking street side ojet, i only encounter 1 who provide shower cap.

From planet holiday to nagoya hill mall if by grabride is 8500 rupiah price almost similiar to gojek 9000 rupiah. This indicated that there is really a obvious difference in the transport cost of using app vs not using app.

The difference is even greater when taking normal car services than motorcycle services. Example from point A to B normal taxi cost 70k rupiah but with app like grab or gojek may only cost about 20k. :p

The free shower cap which most hotel provided will put into good use when taking ojek with strong helmet smell..:D

When i 1st go Batam (about 10 years ago, & i have got record that in this thread), exchange rate only 8000+/SGD. Today its like 11200/SGD or around there.

Few years later you may still be able to buy the same type of apple at the same place at the same price at your own country currency. :p

What it means is when the price tag in rupiah increases, the sing dollar equivalent may still be the same due to rupiah depreciation. Therefore the price increase in rupiah is offset by the exchange rate drop of the rupiah.

For example: if buy an apple 10 years ago at 8000 rupiah which was at sing S$1 at that time.

10 years later which is now, it increases to 11200 rupiah which is also at sing S$1.

Hence the price in rupiah has increased but sing dollar amount remain same.

Why I can think of that was because I ever experience this situation in Johor Bahru whereby I always like to go to one of my favourite massage centre.

The massage fees will always be about sing S$20 equivalent despite having increased price few times due to the devaluation of the ringgit. :D

Economists anticipate that this week the US central bank going to raise interest rate again by 0.75% to control inflation in their country.

This in turn will strengthened the US dollar and exchange rate of all other currencies are expected to fall.

Whereas for the indonesian rupiah may devalue too but not as much as the ringgit, because last week bank indonesia has raise interest rate by 0.5% to support the rupiah.

Worst scenario is that rupiah may drop by few hundred rupiah per sing dollar.

If we look at the exchange rate history 3 months ago, USD$1 = S$1.37

Then over the next few weeks it has risen to the highest of USD$1 = S$1.439

Then until last few days see USD keep depreciating until today the exchange rate gone back again to USD$1 = S$1.37 (almost same as 3 months ago)

SGD to Rupiah

Similiarly few months ago the exchange rate is S$1 = 10516 rupiah

But when the exchange rate of USD against SGD has returned back to original exchange rate today, the rupiah did not return back to the rate of 10516 rupiah.

But instead it remains at S$1 = 11,372 rupiah which is a depreciation of about 850 rupiah per sing dollar after the 3 months period

Forget the michats and wechats route bro. Mostly miss or online okt operations. Tried and tested on 3 seperate occasions.

which is about S$55, saving of (73-55)= S$18. But the ferry they use is smaller than horizon ferry.

Those who wants to go to stulang laut ferry terminal can take a bus from JB Sentral bus terminal near kastam, and the journey takes about 15 minutes to reach at less than RM2. :)

And there is another famous indonesian fruit I love to eat the most is known as "harum manis". It is a type of mango with green skin and light-yellow dots which is sweet and fragrance in taste.

The lemon yellow flesh is thick and juicy too. Talk until here my saliva already drips..:p

For me same here, I am not able to take too much seafood as I am slightly allergy. Seafood like prawn, lobster, squid, oyster, etc has a high content of cholesterol with the exception of fish which is rich in omega 3 good for health.:)

The fish that I love the most in batam is gurame, a type of indonesia fresh water fish which is super delicious.

That is why everytime I go to batam big 3 mall, (DC,BCS,NH), I will always dine in the following budget friendly restaurant with aircon and some with free wifi.

Venew spa can be considered as a moderate-atas spa that distinguish itself from those lower end spa around DC mall.

It can be accessed by taking the lift to level 6 at BCH 2.

Alternatively, if stay in hotel room at BCH 1, take the lift to level 2, walk across the link bridge to BCH 2 and take the lift to level 6.

It has a nice ambience inside the massage room and massage was done on a mattress placed on a timber floor. Alternatively, may request the massage cewek to go to the room if you stay in batam city hotel.

When you reach there, you will be welcomed by one of the customer service officer (cewek) who will bring you to a room to watch the tv screen displaying the photo of the available massage cewek at that moment.

After you have made your choice, she will bring you to the massage room where you can undress, prepare and wait for the cewek of your dream.. :p

Many of the cewek there are sundanese who came from west java and some of them have fair skin as the place they came from have a cool weather or at highland area like Bogor, Puncak, Bandung, Cipanas,etc :)

There are basically two type of massage room at the joint. One of them is executive room where there is a shower area with a urinal.

Another one is suites room with a bath tub and a urinal but the suite room is slightly bigger, no significant differences.

Both type of rooms are equipped with hot water and the cleanliness level was acceptable.

The massage duration for each massage is standard at 90 minutes with an option to extend another 45 minutes if not shiok enough. :D

If not mistaken, the following is the available type of service and prices:

1) If massage is done inside your hotel room, the price is very straight forward which is 485k + 5% tax= 510k rupiah (no discount)

Kindly note that it does not include handjob, strip or fj. (Any special service is charged separately)

510k get massage for 90 minutes with no add-on and no handjob but in your own hotel room.

2) If massage in the spa executive room, price will be 395k. But if tamu take up an add-on service, then will be provided with a free handjob and also a discount on the total cost. (could not remember the percentage)

Example if I take the hot aromatic oil as an add-on which cost another 45k, the total fee incurred will be 395k + 45k = 440k. But after take into account the service tax and the discount, it becomes 338k.

338k get massage for 90 minutes with hot aromatic oil and a handjob in executive room.

3) If massage in the suites room, price will be 425k. But if tamu take up an add-on service, similarly they provide a free handjob and a discount on the total cost.

Example if take the hot aromatic oil as an add-on, the total fee incurred will be 425k + 45k = 470k. But after take into account the service tax and the discount, it becomes 360k.

360k get massage for 90 minutes with hot aromatic oil and a handjob in suites room.

Kindly note that if don’t take the add-on service then there will be no free handjob provided..

Was informed that no sex is allowed inside the massage rooms...

However, if want to request the cewek to strip naked and play papaya then will be charged separately which the tamu have to negotiate directly with the cewek. :p

Below is the pricing for each type of add-on service in rupiah:

Hot aromatic oil - 45k (I chose lavender as it smells nice)

Ear candle - 50k

Body scrub - 75k (in bahasa known as lulur tubuh)

Just to share another piece of saving money tip is to place your cpf ordinary account saving which only earn 2.5% to a newly launch ocbc bank fix deposit at 3.4%.

The minimum placement is S$20k and maximum is S$1 million.

When the "harum manis" season is over, i will see lots of mango juice for sale, hehehe...super ultra sweet, not suitable for diabetic tho. Need to add water. Most if not all of the fruits were selling at an average of 10k rupiah, which is less than S$0.90.

They also in turn give me their sea food FR and shared their experience too, hehehe... some of these uncles & aunties whom i brought to Batam were chef themselves (eg, famous curry rice stall in Singapore, Vietnamese restaurant owner, canteen/coffee shop owner, hawkers etc and they can be rather picky when it comes to food).

One of the Malay uncle even used to "cook" in the Brunei palace too. His one comment on Batam sea food was, most of the sea food there taste good mainly because of its freshness, not because they (the chef) can handle the "ingredients" well.

If I were to eat those food in an indonesian restaurant in singapore, the cost is at least double to triple in cost.:eek:

Compare with Singapore, almost everything in Batam will be cheap.

It is often advisable to spread out my own money to collect the interest on different parts of the month each year. Like the example of above. 3 months later, i get about S$175/3 months/3.5% (with S$20k). Then 5 months later, i get about S$316.60/5 months/3.8%, followed by UOB's S$384/6 months/3.85% etc etc.

By doing that, it may seems i am getting lesser. But the advantage is my money is not locked for a longer time and that i get to have some free money every month or every other month to subsidize my trips to Batam.

Note that i am only using S$20k's minimum placement. I can always add more if i wish to have more "free money" to subsidize my Batam trips in 2023.

First trip to Batam since the COVID. Most places not much changes. A2 food court is still crowded with 2 big screen showing world cup live. Went to Mawar around 11.30am but not many ceweks, around 6-8. The price 1.2M to 1.8M. Walk around the area and other 1 joint offers LT after 7pm and Happy does not offer LT.

Went to Mawar around 11.30am but not many ceweks, around 6-8. The price 1.2M to 1.8M. Walk around the area and other 1 joint offers LT after 7pm and Happy does not offer LT.

I think only get charged if the official complain coming from someone close family like relative or village head.
