So far among booking joints,i have physically seen a place where the papi quoted me 2 juta for an overnight girl. (via the place's backdoor room) That's the closed down joint,Queen8933. And the only difference I was told back then that she was different from the rest was...she is underage (she's 15 and another one at 16,according to papi).

Stayed in Formosa hotel this time,walk over to Happy 8 ,couldn't find the right girl with the right price, i targeted New berry b4 realizing that they were closed. From there ,i walk to moonlight & book a 20 year old girl there at 1.1 juta bargained from 1.5juta ,back to hotel in a taxi & have 1st shot.

Taxi service INSIDE the parking or Nagoya Hill is regulated: all taxi obey to the same group rules. That is the reason why taxi inside Nagoya Hill are the most expensive in Batam island, probably.

The good sense rule for tourists should be to avoid to grab a taxi from the taxi desk service in Nagoya Hill, but go outside, just to avoid to overpay so much.

HOWEVER, most tourists and even locals prefer the convenience to take a taxi straight from the stairs, to avoid walking out with shopping bags etc. That explains the surcharge: you don't want to walk 100 m to go out? ok, be happy to pay 60k instead of 40k.

As the taxi service inside Nagoya Hill is regulated, they have a good reason to be angry if someone else offers rides (through Uber or even not) skipping the commission of the official desk. I think it is not even allowed by "law" or whatever you call it.
Personally, should I use Uber, I would call it to pick me up outside Nagoya Hill, not certainly there at the bottom of stairs in front of the line of regular licensed taxies.

Finally, I understand that the physical aggression was against the Uber driver and not against the passenger. Trust me, should anyone would even try to do such a thing to me, it does not matter if I am in Batam or in Singapore, I will not just sit and hope. The respect from people is something we earn.

2 questions

1) Sim Cards - Will a Singapore sim card work or will I have to get a Indonesian one?

2) Money exchange - Could anyone point out a good money exchanger.

Just read the forum, maybe aided by the magic "search" button, and you'll find all the information you seek.
1) Using the SIN card would be stupid, as you'd be roaming and paying a lot. Buy a local one for few bucks (Simpati costs maybe 140k with 7GB data over 4G).
2) Exchange NOT in Singapore, NOT at the arrival port of Batam (unless you don't even have the 50k for the taxi to go to your hotel, or the 10k-20k to go there by "OJET" - the fastest type of ojek I assume). Once in Nagoya, ask around in not less than 3-4 places to get the best rate.

Sim Cards - Will a Singapore sim card work or will I have to get a Indonesian one?

Sg has 3 Telco provider w respective webbies. U may wish to check them out since I dn't knw wich sg sim u using or plan 2 use.

M1 has a data passport or smthg I heard, whereby u can use yr data & call time in certain asia country @ the same sg rate or wat is remains in yr sim.

If you use M1 prepaid card, you can use it's data in Batam just like local data. No roaming data charge. Just make sure that you connect to XL. By default, if you set auto, it will connect to Indosat.

No idea whether you guys know or not, sometime exchange rate in the bank is better than money change. BCA Bank or Panin Bank. It's easy to find BCA Bank since it has quite few branches around nagoya area. The drawback is that gotta que lor. Why the bank exchange rate is sometime better than money change? Raddisson has a 24hrs shuttle service provided from hotel to Nagoya area.Make full use of it to reach where most entertainment places were at (Nagoya area,travel time about 20mins). So,do read page 1 of this thread so that by the time u reached those mongering area,u'll know where to get yr overnight girl.

As for massage,if u are lazy to read/move about,just go for the hotel's in-house Men's reboot vitality massage. Will cost more than SG,like abt 1.5 jt for 2 hrs of massage (special serv might be negotiate separately). Didn't know it will be so problematic calling driver to pick me up at Nagoya Hill Mall. During my trip 2 weeks ago, I booked a taxi for 300k to pick me up at Batam Center, until send me back to Batam Center the following day. We didn't encounter this problem with the taxi counter when he came to fetch me after my shopping trip.

This is very good advice. I am on the way back from a 2 nights trip. Came in on Saturday and changed only $150 at 9,720. Changed so little as I have balance from previous trip. Reached Batam centre at about 10:30 am, but the crowd is very bad. Took about 40 minutes to clear immigration. So, it's about 11 am when I made the money change.

If I am a M1 post-paid customer,i will stick with M1's S$10 data passport if I am not a regular in Batam. But if I need to buy a sim card in Sillypore to get roaming in Batam,i will choose to buy that sim card in Batam instead. Cheaper and I get more in the long run (that's if I go to Batam often enough).

Nowaday Sillypore roaming packages were made to be almost equivalent with buying a new sim card in Batam. Other than the part that Singtel keeps making their customer buy something that most in Batam do not need,hehehe...imagine,30 days to use those data. How many of us actually stayed in Batam for more than 30 days.

Let's not forget that many Batam places often comes with free wifi....but free wifi would also mean if there are many people using it at the same frame of time, it gets slowed down. Eg,if you pick a hotel that is full house on that day,then don't expect a fast internet connection,hehehe... ;)

Note : Sometime I would advise those respective business entities which I frequent to reset their modems and routers (I teach them how to) so as to flush out all old/under-utilize wireless IPs to speed up the connection speed.

I already posted a few times about having a local SIM in Batam and about using Wifi.
I will summarize here the basics.

SHOULD I BUY A LOCAL SIM IN BATAM?

Yes, definitely. When I arrive to Batam, the first thing I do after having settled in my room is going to Lucky Plaza to buy two Simpati SIMs (why two? read below).
Best of all, I suggest to have two phones: your usual smartphone with your usual SIM and a cheap additional phone. I keep my smartphone active for Internet access (on wifi), receiving SMS from my home country, whatever, and I also have a GSM Nokia phone for local voice calls and SMS.

There are two good reasons for getting a local SIM for the second phone:
1) You may not want to give out your main phone number to anyone you meet. I usually copy to my whatsapp and wechat only those I think are worth.
2) You may need to contact or be contacted by someone also when you are out of wifi coverage (I exclude using roaming, due to cost).

If you have only one phone, I would put the local SIM in your main phone, to be online 24/24.

USING PUBLIC WIFI IN BATAM

If you want to keep your SIM in your main phone, to be reachable on your main number, you have the option of public wifi. Not only in restaurants and clubs: there is also a public wifi which works not bad, provided by Telekom Indonesia.

Using your main phone (with non-Indo SIM card), you connect to @wifi.id, and you land to a page where you are offered the options.
Minimum is 5000rp for 1 day access. I was used to pay 20000rp for 1 week.
In the same page, you are given a message to send by SMS to a number (valid only for Simpati cards). This message identifies the phone from you which you landed to the welcome page.

You must have another phone with a Simpati local SIM card with some credit (I have an old GSM Nokia, which I keep purposely for local SIMs). You send the SMS and you receive a SMS with login id and pw, which you use to login on the landing page still open in your main phone. Most of the times, if not even the first time, you don't need to enter this id/pw everytime, because it recognizes you (the phone from which the landing page was seen).

BEST OF ALL

This is what I do:

1) I have a Nokia GSM phone, with local Simpati SIM, for local voice calls and SMS with girls who don't have a smartphone or who I don't want to give my wechat/whatsapp id.

2) I keep my regular smartphone active with my usual SIM card, connected to wifi for Internet access.

3) I also have a portable 4G modem, in which I put another local Simpati SIM with a data plan including a few GBytes. This SIM will not be used for voice calls: only data. I keep my 4G modem with me at all times: it provides a wifi personal access (I can connect up to 10 devices, if needed) wherever I go. It's high speed! I tested it and I could reach good speeds well above 10 Mbit/s. This SIM with 7 GB valid for 1 month costs around 140k, if I remember well.

Note: Sometime I would advise those respective business entities which I frequent to reset their modems and routers (I teach them how to) so as to flush out all old/under-utilize wireless IPs to speed up the connection speed.
Definitely! Even in Formosa, when they were insisting they needed to call IT staff, I advised them to just switch off and restart the router. Magic!
Restarting does not speed up the connection, but flushes IP addresses that have been assigned (and many of them may be not in use in anymore). It is needed when one cannot connect, as one of the most frequent reasons is that all available IP addresses have been assigned already.

Take note that the money changer info does not apply for Chinese New Year. During CNY eve and its 1st few days, some money changers in Singapore (arcade) give better rate and Batam ferry terminal's money changer has the tendency to offer better value than those downtown individual shops.

Simple reason,most downtown money changer were closed (7.5 out of 10) on the few days. Only a very minimum of them were opened,so those who opened for business on that few days tends to jack up their exchange rate price. And from one money changer to another,its a few mins walk away,compare to less than a min during other non-CNY days. Ferry terminal's money changer however has many money changer than opens for business during CNY 1st 2 to 3 days.

Lastly, most money changers in Batam were owned by Chinese.

If you use M1 prepaid card, you can use it's data in Batam just like local data. No roaming data charge. Just make sure that you connect to XL. By default, if you set auto, it will connect to Indosat.

Was in batam few days ago. Tried contacting ceweks by wechat. Many available. Had one in the afternoon for st, another at night for overnight and the third in the late morning after bfast, st. In my opinion, more fun getting thru wechat than visiting the pick up joints.

And as i read earlier a discussion of uber taxis in batam, here is my feedback. Checked out from bcc hotel to go to mega mall. Tried uber and driver came within 4 mins. Driver, Bobby, works full time in a bank, speaks excellent English and was very interested to know about Singapore. Had a very interesting conversation with him during the trip. Cost of the trip? 32.5k ruppiah which converts to $3.50, which i found extremely cheap. Will definitely be taking uber again the next time i am there.

Arrived at batam about 305pm and went to the taxi counter to get a taxi (green Colour) - quoted 50k, seems market rate. Reach hotel Formosa, checkin is smooth. Room is spacious and a bit run down (but given the price, its ok) so follow advise from bro go opp change money, gotten 9700.

A question here I saw the Harbour Bay terminal also got money changer. Seems better rate? Is it also advisable to change at there?

Anyway then walk to lucky plaza, wanted to buy a Sim.. like thousands of them haha. Anyhow choose one buy 1 simpati 30gb for 100k. Dunno got coned or not. Haha

Anyway back to hotel and try to figure out My plan. Wah the hotel wifi and my sim connection both very bad, I keep trying to connect to diff level one to get intermittent connection.
Any bro has recommendations to solve wifi problem? Ask them said they will check then it's the same.

Then with no wifi, use my adventurous self and the map provided by bro nono. Only manage to find happy 8. Went in, mami said got 1 young one, then 2 slightly older to choose. The rest is cui. Quoted 1.4juta for the young one. I said no really my cup of tea. I said I come back later around 7.mami did offer to cut to 1.2juta for the young one. But I said later.

PM sent, on a side note I suggest maybe stay at hotel utama or hotel 18 or pagoda hotel or fragrance hotel all this hotels are walkable to atleast 4 joints (I lazy to count the rest, hehe). Also MP are all over that area, and it's cheap, u can also ask them to sent to your hotel like king massage also just like king massage they will open lion mouth but I doubt they will say $50 for hj. That area atleast u get 200k hj with top open.

A little advise, avoid money changer at the 2 end of the block of building shown on the above picture. Try your luck at the middle few.

Massage per hour is 110k. In anywhere,110k rupiah is good to test water. If the massage girl is good, then you extend...price will still be 200k for 2 hours. If massage is good, don't forget to tip a bit.

Let me share my incident which I tried many times.

I go for an hour massage 1st, I go for special service after the golden question (if price is good). After 1 hour up and special service,90% the girl is still in nude,...and if she is good,i extend another hour requesting her to remain nude during the massage. Work 90% of the time and end of session,i still "tip" her a little for remaining in nude during the extension.

Regular batam goers tend to pay the standard fare most of the time,be it few years ago and/or today.

As for girls,there's no consistency. But conclusion for me is, if the place the girls worked has good business ,price goes upway. Pretty much common sense for anyone who cheong,if prices were equal,more or just mild difference than Sillypore price,its definitely carrot pricing. Went for my virgin batam trip today. Just want to explore around and see how to locate sedona and happy massage 8 from formosa. Wasn't that successful. Partly because of 1 cab driver who keep following me and stuff name cards of afew joints like kupu, sri kandy, permata indah etc to me. Keep insisting he wont charge me(after quoting 300k in his first attempt). Told me that those girls there are young, price range from 1.3juta to 1.7juta and he is earning comm only. However i managed to shake him off after about 15-20min. Awhile later another ojek came over and i have to restart the whole process again. Make me very sian and no mood to explore already.

Then went back to my hotel to wash up first before trying to navigate to dc mall as my hotel is around a walking distance to it. Wanted to find those massage places around romance hotel, as i saw from bro nono's list there were afew around the area. At first only managed to find A3 and from there saw bunga. But it was close to late evening so bunga was abit empty, and A3 doesn't look that nice. Circle abit around the area and saw keyza. Decided to take a smoke before going in, but a guy from hello kitty saw me and ask me to come in and take a look. So thought no harm and check it out. Price was good and he told me the girls are shared among keyza and another massage place next door.

PM sent, on a side note I suggest maybe stay at hotel utama or hotel 18 or pagoda hotel or fragrance hotel all this hotels are walkable to atleast 4 joints (I lazy to count the rest, hehe). Also MP are all over that area, and it's cheap, u can also ask them to sent to your hotel like king massage also just like king massage they will open lion mouth but I doubt they will say $50 for hj. That area atleast u get 200k hj with top open.

Just felt a little nit dejected after looking through the image file which you have kindly attached, as I should have widen my recceeing radius around hotel romance. If i do that could have found sri kandy. It is just along the same street as a3 and bunga. So near yet so far...

From your image file, i feel staying at biz hotel would be better with it's accessibility to the booking joints and massage place. Although the one i stayed in (BCC) is also good too. As both are walking distance to DC mall. BCC is good for it's accessible to good food places as A2 is just beside it, while hai o is walking distance too. I remember walking past it while navigating to DC mall, only missed it as they only open at around 5.30pm.

Just wondering, is king massage the one opposite the small mini mart few shops away from beautiful massage? Because i saw it but don't recall seeing king massage but only saw twins massage.

I got $1:9,780 rp from the first shop that I approached at Batam Centre. Didn't ask for more as I'm only changing $300.

Managed to catch War for the Planet of the Ape, Dunkirk (superb movie, I'm tearing as the show ends and walking out of the auditorium) and lastly, Overdrive. Didn't really enjoy the last show as I caught straight after Dunkirk. Had 2 x massage at Bridge Massage and a for reflexology session at Eska spa. All 2 hours sessions. Wonderful value at total less than $50.

So,my guess was right. You were on the 3rd floor. Try the 2nd floor rooms the next time round. You are also lucky that your room is not directly down stairs of Alishan KTV,or else you might have a difficult time trying to sleep in the middle of the night.

My solution :

Ask for a room from reception that has good wifi. Usually closer to the lift area. But those area,you might not get room with windows.

When given an overly corner room at the any 4 corner of the block of hotel,test the wifi upon entry (if its a main concern to you,some of their room's air-con can be pretty weak as well).

2. I went to the first shop next to linda massage.

As said previously,try to avoid the corner shop at each end of the block from the 2 shown photos. But my usual advise were (part of it were collected from experience bros in the thread) :

So far Linda money changer rate also quite competitive. Its still always good to ask around 2 to 3 shops for the rate before committing,tho the difference in amount may be relatively marginal. In other word,if you are changing few hundred dollars (S$200 to S$400),you likely win a dollar or two or lose the very same amount if the exchange isnt in your favor.

Everyone's a millionaire in batam,but not everyone understand why their money suddenly runs out so fast,hehehe...so every cent in my favor, counts.

3. The sim card.. I dont think i need that much but she told me thats the only one she have.

I usually dont advise newbie to buy an indo sim card if they are planning mainly a 2D1N or 3D2N trip (especially when they arent returning within the next 30 days).

4. I did not bargain infact. first time there I actually dont really like the young girl she proposed. So i say maybe I come back later. But I stay there for 1 cigarette time. after that went i come up she rush out to offer me 1.2juta without even bargain.

Hehehe...didnt bargain,and just by staying around long enough allows you to bring the price down from 1.4 juta to 1.2 juta.

This tells me a story,right?

5. I saw some bro wrote they did 2 hours massage so I follow suit on that one. Any Relax is clean massage?

1 hr 110k rupiah,10 hours = less than 1.1 juta (before 10% membership discount if you havent sign up) Every hour in a Batam MP for me is just test water. And this kind of test water isnt expensive (i dare not use the word cheap tho).

Yes, Relax massage is clean for MOST people,just like Bridge Massage which is also nearby. The small road that divides Formosa hotel and Lucky Plaza,walk all the way downward towards the direction Nagoya Hill Mall and you will see Bridge Massage.

Directly behind Relax Massage is Indo Rasa Food Court, 2nd floor of the food court is another massage shop called Indo Rasa Massage.

6. Haha in fact not really 9 is actually 830pm. But I did found one i like but another bro got it. I wanted to go Alishan but I was like reading Alishan is min 1.6juta. I happen only left with 1.6juta after all the massage. So I just went up 11pm+ to take a look at the stock only.

I wrote about 9pm,hehehe...becos anytime after 830pm is not a good time for me anymore. KTV girls usually arrive to work between 7pm to 745pm. Yes,booking girls from KTV can cost about 20% to 30% more as compared to most booking joint (for most).

I agree it was wrong time wrong place. But its alright. It was fun and always have 2nd time.

Ojek drivers do their best to make their business, to the extent to be ever annoying.
We go to Batam for our business too, and we don't like to be annoyed.

Definitely, your advice is good: respect and talk nicely, always, but after the first message no need to entertain conversation. We can safely ignore all further attempts to call our attention, as our first feedback has been clear enough.

SHOULD I BUY A LOCAL SIM IN BATAM?

Yes, definitely. When I arrive to Batam, the first thing I do after having settled in my room is going to Lucky Plaza to buy two Simpati SIMs (why two? read below).
Best of all, I suggest to have two phones: your usual smartphone with your usual SIM and a cheap additional phone. I keep my smartphone active for Internet access (on wifi), receiving SMS from my home country, whatever, and I also have a GSM Nokia phone for local voice calls and SMS.

There are two good reasons for getting a local SIM for the second phone:
1) You may not want to give out your main phone number to anyone you meet. I usually copy to my whatsapp and wechat only those I think are worth.
2) You may need to contact or be contacted by someone also when you are out of wifi coverage (I exclude using roaming, due to cost).

If you have only one phone, I would put the local SIM in your main phone, to be online 24/24.

For newcomers who planned only a 2D1N Batam or at times a 3D2N trip,i wont usually ask them to get a sim card unless knowing that they will be coming back in the next 30 days,or so.

In Singapore,there are 3 Telco providers, many Singaporean don't use pre-paid card and most would already have a post paid sim card which will be billed to their home address monthly.

In those post-paid sim card,there was monthly package deal,eg 500 mins talk time,5 GB data usage. By paying a nomination sum of around S$10 to S$12 to their respective Telco companies,they will be able to utilize what's remain from their post paid sim card package (when they are oversea). And charges will be similar to what they will be paying for in Singapore.

Its just an option if Singaporean post-paid sim card user do not wish to switch their sim cards around over their same phone.

*pre-paid card with a store value of S$X will be another deal,different from the post paid ones.

USING PUBLIC WIFI IN BATAM

If you want to keep your SIM in your main phone, to be reachable on your main number, you have the option of public wifi. Not only in restaurants and clubs: there is also a public wifi which works not bad, provided by Telekom Indonesia.

Using your main phone (with non-Indo SIM card), you connect to @wifi.id, and you land to a page where you are offered the options.
Minimum is 5000rp for 1 day access. I was used to pay 20000rp for 1 week.
In the same page, you are given a message to send by SMS to a number (valid only for Simpati cards). This message identifies the phone from you which you landed to the welcome page.

You must have another phone with a Simpati local SIM card with some credit (I have an old GSM Nokia, which I keep purposely for local SIMs). You send the SMS and you receive a SMS with login id and pw, which you use to login on the landing page still open in your main phone. Most of the times, if not even the first time, you don't need to enter this id/pw everytime, because it recognizes you (the phone from which the landing page was seen).

This above were interesting notes.

I use 2 phones,1 with Singapore sim card,the other with Indo sim card.

3) I also have a portable 4G modem, in which I put another local Simpati SIM with a data plan including a few GBytes. This SIM will not be used for voice calls: only data. I keep my 4G modem with me at all times: it provides a wifi personal access (I can connect up to 10 devices, if needed) wherever I go. It's high speed! I tested it and I could reach good speeds well above 10 Mbit/s. This SIM with 7 GB valid for 1 month costs around 140k, if I remember well.

This above is something I am planning to look into in my upcoming Batam trip. I would like to ask :

1. Is there a USB portable sim card modem for sale in Batam? (I wish to buy it in Batam)

Definitely! Even in Formosa, when they were insisting they needed to call IT staff, I advised them to just switch off and restart the router. Magic!
Restarting does not speed up the connection, but flushes IP addresses that have been assigned (and many of them may be not in use in anymore). It is needed when one cannot connect, as one of the most frequent reasons is that all available IP addresses have been assigned already.

I did that in the hotel (in-person) a long time ago.

Buy a single portable WiFi modem/router!
It's small like a soap. You insert your SIM card. You keep it in your pocket. Then you have a Wifi hotspot moving with you, to which you can connect up to 10 devices, for example your laptop, your smartphone(s), and even the smartphones of your friends and girls.

If your modem is 4G, with a 4G Simpati card in Batam you get up to a few tens of Mbit/s. (I remember a price like 100k-140k for a SIM card with 7GB for one month)

Yup, applicable for USA N Europe where they voice call more.. WhatsApp call quality can't beat voice calls, n the operators there prefer to call you over the phone to confirm details..

I am actually not sure what are ALL the available packages for all Indo Telco services,hehehe...there are too many (its gonna take me ages to translate and figure out,hehehe...).

BUT, I think I did saw some adverts on M1 ,Starhub and Singtel sim card selling at Harbour Front which anyone could use it in Malaysia, Indonesia etc at about S$5/S$8 that comes with roaming and a few hundred megabytes of data free (to be use in some Asian countries).

There's one thing I notice in this thread,whenever anyone advise newbies to buy a simple sim card in Batam for data (usually the mention price is 10k rupiah to 50k rupiah), BUT from reading their FRs and reviews,i notice most if not all ,ends up buying 100k rupiah sim (there are others who even end up topping more money after their 100k rupiah sim card purchase, worrying themselves that they might not have enough).

Now, i put myself in the shoe of a sim card seller. I see a tourist walking into my shop asking for a 10k sim card (or anything under 50k),will I sell that to him/her? (even if I have the stock) Hehehe...I will try to sell him/her the 100k one obviously and even ask him to top up more.

Another angle of view,will batam locals buy sim card at places where there are many tourist? Or at tourist spot? Obvious answer...right?

Yes ,here's yet another angle of view from a tourist's perspective. Will he/she spend time in Batam to hunt around for a 10k (or anything under 50k) sim card? Hehehe... unlikely too, right?

Standing from a Sillyporean perspective (as myself),what are my options?

1. Buy a S$5/S$8 pre-paid sim card in Singapore (or activate the data passport thingy on post paid sim card). Singtel,M1 and Starhub all have such.

2. Don't rely on internet upon stepping out of hotel by doing my own homework beforehand.

3. Have someone (which I knew in person) brought me to a place where I can figure out my options for a sim card (which will again, takes time). Not a compulsory on this one tho.

4. Read the respective Indonesia Telco website info to find out more (which I did).

Hehehe...most of what I said here would be myself putting in another person's shoe (and sometime trying my best to get into his mentality) to think and later source for the best solution that most suit me.

My answer is Yes,there is No Need to get a sim card if a Batam newbie is gonna be staying around for only 2D1N or maybe even 3D2N, UNLESS he would be coming back in the next 30 days or so.

Its just too time consuming to get all the right information on their telco (as it changes all the time too) and unproductive. Worse is, if one do not understand Bahasa Indo like myself.

Do some homework, copy down the maps here and set up itinerary to note down those places one wish to go. Avoid over planning and being too ambitious (I think you are already having those mindset). And you are ready to step into the island,just as anyone would do if he/she goes to Sentosa island,hehehe...

Also in my country in Europe and in several others, some years ago taxi drivers on strike against UBER or the concession of new additional taxi licenses blocked roads and public transport, until the authorities (this time I must use the lover caps) went begging them on knees. Sad to say that, but taxi drivers with their families control a package of votes, and politicians do not want to have them against.
You must live in Singapore, where I cannot imagine taxi on strike blocking public transport... :D

I did not compare all plans and offers on the market, as I am sure you would have done at my place, but after some comparisons I concluded that the SIM card to buy for DATA access in BAtam is the 100k/140k Simpati card by Telekom Indonesia.
The reason is that it is 4G (whereas cheaper ones are 3G), it includes a bunch of data traffic (7 GB + more for special services up to 12 GB), it lasts one month (expiration postponed if you top up).
With 10 SGD I have all the Internet access I want even for a prolonged stay, at the speed of 4G (you are right that if one stays for a weekend, it is probably not needed).

2 years ago, premium taxi drivers at the Changi Airport ganged up and blocked the entrance to the taxi holding area at Terminal 1. You may or may not be aware, premium taxi fares can cost up to 60% of regular taxis. And, for that incident, Changi Airport Group tried to make them join a separate queue. End up, regular taxis were picking up customers happily but these premium taxis (such as Chrysler, Vans, Merc cabs etc) were left in the queue grumpily.

So what they did? Ganged up to block the entrance to the taxi holding area to Terminal 1. It was just a pilot project for T1 then. No taxi were able to enter to pick up customer. And no one is willing to take expensive taxis. Police and Member of Parliament have to be called in to handle the situation.

On the subject of sim card, usually you need to pay a small fee of 2,000 rupiah when you top up your sim card in Batam.

Next time you're there, try topping up at Alfamart. This apply to 100k top up. They don't charge you the 2,000 rp fee. Instead, you get a 500 rp discount too.

Not a big amount 2,500 rp. But, do this 10 times and you just saved enough for a simple lunch.

Just sharing but i chose to censor off its address,phone number and reservation email because if one has the heart,they can easily find this hotel online. Good deal in the sense that one do not need to deal with taxi drivers at the ferry terminals. Hehehe...another hotel offering free transport. Too bad,still cant beat the hotel that offers me 2 way free transport.

Note : I didnt spell the hotel's name out here (not Da Vienna) becos the free 2 way shuttle service transport is supposingly applicable to me only (i think so ,and i shall share more of this in my next upcoming 39th trip summary). Other customers,they will charge 50k rupiah (2-way).

Batam booking joint with the most number of girls is just about 5 mins walk from the photo-ed hotel above too. ;)

Yup, applicable for USA N Europe where they voice call more.. WhatsApp call quality can't beat voice calls, n the operators there prefer to call you over the phone to confirm details..

Not referring to things like WhatsApp call,but more like our V019.

Sometimes in overseas when you need to receive calls from locals, getting a local prepaid sim card with data and calls is much better.. The locals can call you on the local number sim , n if you roam on sg sim card for data while overseas, then the locals not willing to call u as its international call for them n very expensive.. esp for Uber or grab drivers to place a phone call to you to confirm location etc ( not WhatsApp call)..

If your modem is 4G, with a 4G Simpati card in Batam you get up to a few tens of Mbit/s. (I remember a price like 100k-140k for a SIM card with 7GB for one month)

...I concluded that the SIM card to buy for DATA access in BAtam is the 100k/140k Simpati card by Telekom Indonesia.
The reason is that it is 4G (whereas cheaper ones are 3G), it includes a bunch of data traffic (7 GB + more for special services up to 12 GB), it lasts one month (expiration postponed if you top up).
With 10 SGD I have all the Internet access I want even for a prolonged stay, at the speed of 4G (you are right that if one stays for a weekend, it is probably not needed).

Some more remarks.
I suggest you follow this procedure.

1) Buy a 4G modem router (portable hotspot) IN SINGAPORE.
This way, you will have all the time to learn how to use it, familiarize with it, configure it if needed, solve issues with the help of who sold it to you.
Saving few dollars to buy it from some underground shop may be not a wise choice in this case. Prefer a reliable shop, where competent staff can help you also on the next days if you have problems or don't know how to do something.
Be sure you buy an unlocked device, which works with any SIM of any provider (Obvious? NO. In Paris, my unlocked 4G modem did not work with any local SIM except one provider. Nobody ever understood why, as my 4G modem never had any problem with SIM cards of many countries in all continents).

2) Once in Batam, you know it works (at least with a Singaporean SIM), so you can proceed to buy the SIM.
Go to Lucky Plaza (it's not worth going around to save 2k, as the price is fixed by Telekom + some fee), choose your retailer of trust and buy the SIM card. I suggest a 4G, even if is is more expensive (few dollars anyway).
Don't leave the place but TRY IT THERE, with the help of the staff.
The procedure is not just one step: you have to insert the SIM, wait it connects to the 4G network, see the green light that says your modem is connected to 4G, then try to connect your phone to the WiFi of your device, and finalle CHECK YOU ARE ONLINE by connecting to some web site.
Plenty of pitfalls and opportunities that something goes wrong.

Last time in Batam, my SIM card stopped to work after few hours. I had to go back to the shop, where the unprepared and not competent staff did not know what was wrong, except saying that it could be my fault, that I browsed too many videos on Youtube and I finished 7 GB in one night (if you know what is 7GB you will understand how gross is this claim).

Fortunately, there was a sales girl with the hat of Telekom Indonesia, who discovered that the SIM was simply not configured correctly. It was sealed in its envelope, but on it there was NO DATA TRAFFIC loaded. They replaced it, with some hesitation, still not knowing if Telekom Indonesia was going to refund them or not.

I report this story, just to explain that things can be complicated and there could always be some detail that goes wrong.

3) If you have completed previous steps correctly, at this point you have your WiFi hotspot with you and you are online 24/24 wherever you go.

ANY laptop today has a cable LAN interface AND a Wifi wireless LAN interface. You cannot be without it.
To be covered for cases when you don't stay in a hotel with good Wifi coverege, then you need a portable Wifi modem router, not a USB portable SIM card modem, which I believe is maybe not on the market anymore (no need for it).

Change room seems to be a solution...but if i change my room,things work,it will be good but...what if it doesnt? (since i already detected its the whole hotel's issue) My friends in another room also have wifi issue.

Formosa hotel slowly switching to fibre connection...and fibre's ISP company (non-formosa hotel staffs) just left my room about an hour ago,problem still not completely fix...tomorrow,i may kick Ricky's azz...hehehe...

Just get a mifi and you will be able to sleep better than you hope for, without having to deal with all these internet access issue. You buy a USB dongle, and you still have to contend with installing the drivers and hope that it works on your laptop.

Just buy a TP Link mifi. No need to get Huawei. TP Link are cheap and good.

Yes, best is just to follow your own plan. I might suggest getting a Mi Max2 for the big battery, but it might not suite what you have in mind.

I guess you're passing it to someone to use, so that person can get it fixed in Indo if thing screw up. I do still think though that a mifi represent the least possibility of screw up, if compared to a USB dongle.

Everything is back to normal for me and better than ever. Set up a new room in a hotel that best suits me isnt easy task,hehehe...yesterday's headache no more.

Thursday's exchange rate was 9780/SGD (late morning),yesterday early noon,it went up to 9800/SGD for a while before dropping back to 9780/SGD again in the later noon.

Today? Not so sure...but it should be hovering around that figure plus minus with a bit difference.

Heading to Pulau Galang in a few hours time and now? Am going to get 2 girls to massage me for an hour. One focus on bottom,one of top,then rotate...hehehe... (never try 8 hands massage before,maybe should find time to do so if time allows it)

I would like to give an update on Alishan KTV at Formosa since I found it so hard to get up to date information on this KTV.

My friends and I (4 of us) went to this KTV on a weekday. Went in around 10 pm and it was rather quiet. Saw about 20+ girls in the open area hanging around.

Went into the room and ordered some beer. One beer at 52k. But they got some promo now. Don't really understand Bahasa... but in summary, it's buy 4 get 2 free.

Waiter ask if we want girls. We say yes. Mami brought about 25 girls in. Some pretty ones we saw outside in the open area probably reserved by Mami for someone else - never come in.

Most that come in are pretty cui - either quite old looking or fat. We just picked the best of what's available.

Anyway, to cut the story short - it's a real disappointment. The girls were somewhat chatty... but only allow to touch boobs over the clothes. But as the night passed... they like lose enthusiasm.

By the way, damage for everything increase since the last relevant FRs:

Price for Small Room: 100k per hour
Sitting fee of girls: 350k (Increase from 250k as per last relevant FRs)

Not all girls allow da bao (ours don't da bao one) but I think the price is still at about 1.5-1.7 juta if the girl allow. Expensive, and only stay till 8 am the next day (or the same day for those that sing past 12 midnight).

350k apparently not including tips. Girls expect tips even though they do nothing with you.

The karaoke system is old and clunky - hard to use. Either too loud or too soft. Further, the mike like always got some issue.

For the price of 350k sitting fee excluding tips, the playability is shit in this place. You would be better off going to SG VN joints. Though they butterfly... at least probably better looking and maybe got more playability and fun.

I guess the only good thing about this place is that the room cost if split between a few people is cheaper compared to SG. Further, girls don't butterfly. But a disappointing night to say at the very least.

Perhaps if any bros know of a better place in batam that is good, or if I've been doing something wrong to get such non-existent playability, give some advice and I'd be grateful.

Super upscale with club-like lounge and outdoor swimming pool. Sandard massage with hj at 360k - inclusive of facilities fee. Bingo! That the small lane that on The right side of Lovery Garden. (Left side of LG is the open carpark if DCM)
It sort of perpendicular to the road where most MP located. If you try to walk fr SriKandy to the main road... you would pass by that small lane.

New spa batam, at batam city hotel, is just as good. They offer topless bm and pm at a combo package of 460k- which includes facilities fee. They also offer fj/bj at additiinal costs which i didnt take up coz i am already drained. Facilities wise, I prefer fame spa but for massage quality, I prefer Venus. I usually rent a 7-seater at 300k and drive myself in batam to go back and forth Nagoya and Batam centre- sometimes to Piayu and Galang areas for seafood and sight-seeing. Or,like my friend,bypass the the mamis to get to the girls...there are many ways to do that,it all depends on your creativity. Like my friends who were able to get overnight Vietnam and China girls at between 1 juta to 1.5 juta (I did mention I have done the similar before in my past summaries over a year ago too).

Just that they didnt exactly share their techniques with me in details,hehehe...;)

The karaoke system is old and clunky - hard to use. Either too loud or too soft. Further, the mike like always got some issue.

For the price of 350k sitting fee excluding tips, the playability is shit in this place. You would be better off going to SG VN joints. Though they butterfly... at least probably better looking and maybe got more playability and fun.

This part,i have nothing to say. When there is a language barrier,i think things can be quite difficult during communication too.

Most night club KTV system can be rather bad,even those family type too,hehehe...lack of maintenance I guess (even tho they did try to update "software" when their "hardware" failed).

I guess the only good thing about this place is that the room cost if split between a few people is cheaper compared to SG. Further, girls don't butterfly. But a disappointing night to say at the very least.

Try this the next round,book your room early (its just a phone call away or inform the hotel reception to do that),so the mami can prepare their girls early. Get to know the mami,even the waiters there were key person that you should talk to,hehehe...dont just talk to your own girls,but with them too. Early birds also usually catch the best worms in Batam. :D

When i mean "talk to the key person",i actually mean to buy their heart. As to how to buy their heart,i believe you will know if you frequent KTV night clubs in Singapore.

In batam,i often play the "do-it-right-i-reward-you" game BUT not every single time so as not to let the people there know i am predictable.

You may wish to try M1 or M2 KTV the next time round but cost should be around 50% higher compared to Alishan. Anyway, KTV in batam isnt my game play,i am only sharing base on my minimum experience there,hope it can be of some help to you.

I think nowaday Batam's booking joint scene seems to change a little ,as i brought a new friend to Happy 8 on a Sunday (August trip),mami open mouth 1.5 juta (she's 20 according to mami),immediately upon her quotation of 1.5 juta,we ask for 1 juta..mami's face twisted,hehehe...and say cannot,but when we attempt to walk off,she try to pull us back with 1.1 juta,we didnt burge until mami agree with our 1 juta...hehehe...i learned this trick from a recent old friend i met tho,so i decide to test water to help that newbie. :D

If haven't made payment yet,simply cancel the room and go other hotel. Batam never short of hotel rooms to stay most of the time. Upon your cancellation,you will have a 90% chance to get room before 12pm (same hotel you cancelled) from their receptionist/s.

Personally tested in Da Vienna and Biz hotel before.

Book a full day taxi at between 250k to 350k (with both car and driver together),whether Batam center area or Harbor bay ,it will no longer be a problem anymore.

Otherwise the scenario I experience before will be, "sweat" all the way to my destination, gotten a good spa,shower and massage ;after that everything done, i "sweat" myself all the way back to hotel room again. And later realize after when I am back to hotel , I need yet another massage becos my leg (or body) become tired again,hehehe...

Solution : Air-con covered all the way there till back my hotel room w/o much "sweat".
