From the look of it,i think they provide only a one-layered queen size bed-mattress. :(

I may be looking for tour agent to bring me there since i found one that organize trekking trips to Pulau Mencaras,hehehe...then again,its at 750k rupiah per pax as they advertised.

I might need to gather more friends to join me if i am on a tour group. :p

Its probably the same theory as how i started traveling during my 1st Batam trip. Get to know the driver (boat driver) and in future can do a private negotiation with them again (language barrier is often one the things that refrained me from going further out,so i need to sort that part out too).

Last week took TransBatam Aircon bus from DCM to Punggur.

...i dont even wish to talk about this Blue Mountain Kelong Resort,hehehe...1 simple reason,cost to stay for one night is about S$400. I mention this resort now becos i might have a follow up of yet another higher end resort place (but not as high as the Blue Mountain Kelong resort) which is after bridge 3.

if you ever see that in Batam,let me know. I am looking to buy one,hehehe...its good for camping out tho,hehehe...i think its very innovative. Imagine,going to a seaside in the early evening to watch the sunset with it. Surely i dont want mosquitoes to start "ice cream" my lil bro,hehehe... :D

I dont know what vege is that,but those who knew me well enough knows in most of my Batam meals (and in Singapore too) do not have vegetables,hehehe...but only in Batam will i not turn down this plate of vegetable on your stated photo above. :p

In fact,the vegetable on your photo is my 1st plate of vegetable i have tried in Batam. I shown my family members the photo you posted,they were also surprise i willing ate that kind of vegetables too (they laughed). :D

i am not exactly a sea food person (i take veggies more than seafood tho),so in Batam,i am likely to have a mis-conception of the sea food prices,i mean..since most of the time (90% time),i dont order any sea food at all,hehehe...so the concept of whats cheap or whats expensive for sea food wont cross my mind. I gauged at most time mainly on what the amount of dollar used to fill a person per meal,hehehe... (eat to live kind)

Then again,not that their food is fantastically good like those in Marine Live,Mickey Mouse,Bento Tei etc,hehehe...at the least,they are good enough for the price i paid for.

Overall edible rating base on my own taste,i would say 6/10. If i am hungry and happens to be in the area,i will eat from that same store above again (as compare to Jco which is just a min walk away),but the food they serve isnt the kind whereby i will specially go there just to return-to-eat kind,hehehe... :p

Pricing wise should not be all that bad,since i hear that their price for small portion of each dish ranges between 25k to 120k rupiah,bigger portion can cost around 200k to 300k rupiah tho. Since they just started no longer than a year...i dont think they will start jacking up their prices as yet,hehehe...well,just look at their location,not very centralized.

If you know where is Delta Spa,if you know where is Grand I-hotel,then you should be able to locate Seruni Hotel,hehehe...its behind it. And if you are too lazy like me who often stays in Formosa (which is also in the map above), then you might wish to use Go-Food to have their food delivered to your hotel,hehehe...

The term ‘Peranakan’ is commonly known as ‘local born’ or ‘local descendants’ and is thought to have been used by the local people of the Straits Settlement and Malay Archipelagos to address foreign immigrants whom established families and businesses in the Straits of Southeast Asia.

During the late nineteenth century, Chinese communities who settled in Southeast Asia adopted the term Peranakan to distinguish themselves from the new immigrants, whom they referred to as Sinkeh (new guest) or, in Indonesia, as totok (migrant). More specifically, male descendants were called Babas and female descendants Nyonyas while senior females were recognized as Bibiks. Most of these descendants, although retaining their Chinese beliefs, also adopted local indigenous lifestyles. Thus, giving birth to the unique practices of the Peranakans and even their own variation of the Malay language called Baba Malay.

While the term Peranakan is most commonly used among the ethnic Chinese for those of Chinese descent also known as Straits Chinese, there are also other, comparatively small Peranakan communities, such as Indian Hindu Peranakans (Chitty), Indian Muslim Peranakans (Jawi Pekan) and Eurasian Peranakans.

A large part of Peranakan customs comes from traditional beliefs inherited from their Chinese ancestors. Their strict observance of these beliefs sometimes supplants even the Chinese themselves.

The family unit is an important facet of the Peranakans, and family members within the same tree can usually be found living under one roof much like their Chinese counterparts.

Rempah, an exciting blend of ingredients pounded together in a mortar and cooked in oil to release its flavour is used for a variety of dishes. It’s this special combination that sets Peranakan food apart from the rest. And because of their ingenuity to improvise traditional dishes with spices and herbs, Peranakans have produced tasty local treats like achar, curry fish in banana leaves, buah keluak, chendol, Nyonya kuehs and many other delights.

Last but not least, the Peranakan culture shares great nostalgia and significance to our local communities in Singapore, and is an attraction for many of our foreign visitors who wish to discover and experience the unique Southeast Asian culture.

This D'Steam Peranakan Live Seafood reminds me of the other Peranakan restaurant near the Batam Indian temple (Pura Agung Amerta Bhuana).

Have been looking high and low for a couple of hours few days back looking for a hotel/resort that suits me most and i STILL end up in Formosa hotel (wtf!),hehehe...but nonetheless,i found something that could be worthy of my time.

Remember SBS resort that cost 1.5 juta? Remember that Blue Mountain Kelong that cost around S$400 (or more)? And then there is this Montigo Resort that cost about S$350 plus too? Yes, having got some experience in Batam already,i am looking for my definition of a perfect place in Batam to have my holiday,hehehe...here's the one thats "almost perfect".

For those who didnt know, I have been looking at Batam hotels over the last few years and if it didnt cross my mind wrong,Montigo Resort is the ONLY place where there will be a private pool inside my own room,hehehe...but how much is that gonna cost me? S$350 or more? And not to count in the distance of traveling from Harbour Bay to Nongsa...and my time cost? Hehehe...

Being fickle minded at times,i might not like a private pool in my own room in every single trip. Well,how many of us actually go to Batam to swim anyway...maybe once a very blue moon,hehehe...so there is a 2nd option, i can take a room with a shared pool (called Suite Villa)....

Its near to the Golden Prawn Sea food restaurant area and if you look at the map closer,it is not too far away from Nagoya area too. At least in distance wise,its still way shorter than going to Montigo Resort. Imagine the taxi fare for starter,hehehe....

Your resort should have transportation to Tanjung Pinang for shopping.
From there you can take ferry to Punggur (Batam) but this take long way and time.

Faster way,(but expensive)
hire taxi to Tanjung Uban
take speed boat (regular) to Punggur.

Hmm...i dont know if others could understand what you just said even tho you put yourself quite clearly that you are heading to Bintan Resorts,hehehe...NOT Tanjung Pinang area. From the resort area,its gonna be a long way down to Tanjung Pinang (45mins to an hour drive depending on traffic). :D

I guess you might be in a similar situation as what i had last year. Had to make a "no-choice" trip to Bintan Resort,but my heart wish to make my way to Batam thereafter,hehehe...turn out,i choose to head back to Singapore Harbour Front 1st (from Bintan resort area and not Tanjung pinang area) before taking another ferry from Singapore to Batam. :D

Overall cost and time use is not far and i feel safer too.

About an hour to Tanjung Pinang area of Harbour,and then to a Batam's harbour mentioned in earlier post by bro BFOMF5,and later take an about 45mins to an hour taxi to Nagoya area. Versus taking about an hour to Singapore and then use another about an hour to come back to Batam,hehehe...i feel more confident heading back to Singapore and then to Batam again.

Somewhere about 4 over years ago,i remember a bro mention about taking a speed boat from batam to Tanjung pinang for a night stay in a resort (with an in-room swimming pool) closer to Tanjung Pinang area (NOT Bintan resort area) and then back to Batam the next day, before taking a ferry back to Singapore.

And by the way,massage at Bintan Resort can be as expensive as in Singapore. ;)

*note that you still have a choice heading to a resort nearer to Tanjung Pinang area tho (instead of those in northern Pulau Bintan),which might shorten your trip back to Batam if you making the other choice.

Thats going to be very very expensive. The price quoted to me by Canopi resort at Bintan for the speed boat rental is S$120 2-way round trip before bargaining (i think it will be more than S$60 for one way and they quoted in Sin dollar,hehehe...), the resort i stayed in doesnt have a speed boat service to Batam,so i think they out-source the deal,so boat commission is overlapped,hence the higher price,hehehe...but quite surprisingly,pick up using motor boat from Batam to Tanjung Pinang is free from some resort in those area (guess its due to trying to entice people to go there,other way round may cost more).

Where is this place? This photo you post looks like a tree house,i notice more themed hotels/resorts coming to Batam over the last few years. One day i wont be surprise they will use a tree house as a resort or hotel,hehehe...

My 2nd choice, Harbour Boutique Hotel at Harbour Bay...costing about 900k rupiah.

I am staying in either 1 of the 2 for my 1st night there,hehehe...and i am still looking at hotels for my 2nd and 3rd nights in Batam. And i have 2 choices again,hehehe...its either Formosa hotel or Da Vienna Hotel. Reason as in BOTH hotels offers free pick up service (note: Da Vienna has a few pick up time slots,so need to arrange at their convenience).

Now level at 10570

The rates for sunset and sunrise usually has a gap difference (and during noon time too). If you keep a look out for the exchange rate on XE rates (sunset,sunrise and noontime), you will soon realize by the time the next day morning money changer shops and XE will be lowered. ;)

I wont be surprise it can goes up to 10600/SGD and above when its past midnight,since no one is trading rupiah in Indonesia at that hours,hehehe....

Just an observation.

Yes,its this stall that sells it. Botak Cun food stall sells them during that rice dumpling festive season time. This guy also sells his Kwek tiaw noodles (together with other kind of noodles) in Tiban Tua Pek Kong temple during last year around June time for "almost free" during the temple's anniversary or something. I think he's a regular donor there too.

Momo used to be one of the best,but after its gone...this eating place is in my own view, BEST (one of) in Batam. If one knows about Hor Fun in Singapore,you will know that when cooking hor fun,practically every uses the normal eggs from chicken,hehehe....this guy use duck egg. Taste was totally different.

Experience based on Last Sunday 1130pm onwards :

Newton and Planet 3 dead zone nobody. Music for both is crazy loud so please save your ears and dun go if u dun have to.

Noname also dead zone two tables occupied only , came back at 1ish same result.

Foreplay 1st floor was packed, the only packed place I saw that nite. Sat on 2nd floor watch sexy dancers in lingerie.

However of the price increase,the satay there still REMAINS at 10 sticks for 17k rupiah,a plate of chick rice with extra egg at 21k rupiah,my favourite and self-proclaimed Batam best roti prata there still going at 6.5k rupiah per piece....my favourite massage place remains no change but a few girls resigned. 2 to 3 years later,price goes up and new things inside hotel start to deteriorate. :D

Those were my observation over the last few years in Batam.

Been eating all sorts of food from food court, roadside kopitiam to restaurants n shopping mall food. Food wise I’m not too picky, like to just explore around and anyhow try.

So far haven’t met any disappointments, food is crazy cheap even the restaurants so can afford to just whack whatever you feel like. As for recommendations I haven’t met any mind blowing food yet but good thing is there’s a wide variety of food all around. Every single meal I eat something diff yet there’s still so many things I haven’t try.

My fave part abt Batam food is the cabe ijo (green chili) that comes with a lot of food. It’s awesome but the kick is powerful and leaves me sweating like a marathon runner.

I think for food recommendation must search thread and see all the old birds recommendations. I’m still newbie, 1st time here but just wanna share my experiences.

Really want to thank many old birds for posting lotsa helpful stuff on da forum. Solo warrior like me have about 20+ tabs open on my phone all from this Batam Thread. Helps a lot and enables me to avoid pitfalls.

Oh just nice wanted to share something, guys trying King Massage at Formosa try not to opt for Oil massage or Kombinasi massage which includes oil. Left the front of both my thighs with rashes. Over the last 4 years odd years,this is the 1st hotel in Batam which i have problem with their power plug,and reception CANNOT help me,hehhe.... So i end up buying my own universal multi-plug,which cost almost 120k rupiah from the super market in BCS Mall. :(

Momo used to be one of the best,but after its gone...this eating place is in my own view, BEST (one of) in Batam. If one knows about Hor Fun in Singapore,you will know that when cooking hor fun,practically every uses the normal eggs from chicken,hehehe....this guy use duck egg. Taste was totally different.

There is this stall called Kway Teow Liang, previously in mitra raya market. The kway teow is well fried and sauce nice. It moves to Pasir Putih market and now had its own stall along Jln Orchard Boulevard. Moves towards where Kaliban hotel is facing and can reach in 5 min by foot. Try it if you are in the vicinity

May i ask if their shop in Mitra Raya still around or is it completely moved out?

Bro,you need to get the spelling of your question right 1st. Is it Harris Hotel or Radisson or was it Harris Resort?

If its Harris Hotel,then you are near to Batam Center. Nearest place for you to get a bonk/special service is Venus Health Spa near to Batam Center area. Same applies to Radisson which is also near Batam Center.

Distance not too long yet not too short,but i doubt you would want to walk there,hehehe...you may get your hotel's taxi driver to send you there tho,only about 5 mins or less (thats if you are staying at Harris Hotel).

If you are talking about Harris Resort,then you will need to specify which of Batam's Harris Resort is it. There are a few of them. There is Harris Resort Waterfront,and then there are Harris Resort Barelang,all of them were at different parts of Batam (quite far apart in fact)...hehehe...put yourself in the shoe of those who wish to help you and yet do not wish of you to get the wrong info.

Above mentioned Harris Resort however is not a place for newbie to get what you are looking for tho,hehehe...most time,we bring girls there,not go there to look for one. :D

I think he gave the wrong information. Kwetiau Liang’s shop is not in Pasir Putih, but in an area called Grand Niaga Mas. Kaliban Hotel is about 10mins’ walk away; another obvious landmark is TOP 100, which is about 5mins away by foot.

Ate there twice, I thought it was very mediocre.

...one last warning to bro from Singapore planning to stay in the above hotel i stayed in,remember to bring a multi-power-adaptor becos this hotel doesnt seems to have a 3 pin plug-in. Actually ,it isnt that they didnt have but such a big room i stayed in,they ONLY HAVE ONE 3-pin plug near the bed area,the rest of it all,were in 2-pin europe-type power plug-in.

Just returned from batam ytd, simple day trip. First time cheonging there too.

Tries Delta spa as it was within the Nagoya SC compound, so feel safe and easy to find.

Quite surprised too, as i thought this area was for family shopping.

They have 3 floors, first floor is main entrance and spa facilities. Got jacuzzi and small gym and lockers. Felt safe as the locker need attendant to tap his RFID key before you can tap yours, so no worries abt ppl hacking.

Went up to 2nd floor, GRO is english speaking sexy OL , but face unfortunately not very pretty. Took my preference for massage, no selection of ML. Wait at 2nd floor for abt 10 mins, i think they preparing the room etc.

GRO finally lead me to 3rd floor, quite friendly but do take note i was charged for the mineral water drink. Not sure if eat their buffet got any charges, not there for makan anyway.

3rd floor look like some javanese hut decor, the wooden rooms are raised and below is an empty crawlspace, thinking back i think its for washing down. Simple curtain serves as the door to each wooden room, its more like a room-sized cubicle tho.

Just a summary of what happened yesterday so that fellow newbies can avoid next time?? Haha mine was a disaster man in the beginning...

I reached at 11am indo timing, spent about 30 mins waiting for Grab but somehow only free 30 mins I realized that Grab drivers r not allowed in Harbour Bay ferry terminal... Oh man...

So I jump into the official Taxi provided by the ferry terminal eventually.. so in Batam Grab is hopeless... Just take note..

The cab driver was nice and friendly la... Told him I wanna do a dabao lter after checking in, but he suggested that I dabao 1st and go hotel with my "food'.. kekeke i ended up at MM and took 1 gal for 1.6J. I find her quite ok Nia just that service is kinda good fter I bought her some clothes at BCM later la..

Overall still had a few rounds of buffets la considering that I spent bomb dabao plus the gifts and also the final tip of 150k... Hahaha made her worked for the money man..

Just a point.. kinda sianz when cheong alone.. maybe next time can find a lao jiao to bring me round cos this time I was lucky cab uncle stopped at MM the 1st stop and I got myself quite a nice Minah too...

Bro, save 200k or more by going on your own to the joints. MM, Havana, Bunga are very near your hotel Da Vienna. MM Papi Ah Seong should be able to offer a cewek from 1 juta onwards. Next time just take a slow walk to all the joints first. Cheers.

Not say cannot use,but u need 2 step out of harbour bay 4 em 2 pick u up. They veri fast hand fast leg de,waitin time usually no more than 10mins & cost probably less than 15k ard nagoya. The thg is u mus need 2 walkin out of harbor bay. Mani lau jiao here use grab/gocar quite regularly...lol :p

if hotel pick u up wen u @ harbor bay,after tat u wn't hv problem using grab or gocar frm hotel onward. check wit hotel recept first if online taxi can pick u up outside.

So I jump into the official Taxi provided by the ferry terminal eventually.. so in Batam Grab is hopeless... Just take note..

The cab driver was nice and friendly la... Told him I wanna do a dabao lter after checking in, but he suggested that I dabao 1st and go hotel with my "food'.. kekeke i ended up at MM and took 1 gal for 1.6J. I find her quite ok Nia just that service is kinda good fter I bought her some clothes at BCM later la..

Overall still had a few rounds of buffets la considering that I spent bomb dabao plus the gifts and also the final tip of 150k... Hahaha made her worked for the money man..

so is 350 enuff? wit yr first trip nw,nxt trip u see if u can cut cost...lol. The $ saved u stil probably end up using it for anther 1 or 2 shots @ mp though...lol

one thg i notice u 4get is bargaining...1.6jt lei....abit on high side,tose 2 om who go with me last time can bk nearly 2 btm ok-looking yg gers with good serv...lol

Advisable pick up point for Grab or non taxi be away from hotel, mall, jetty. Dont want to be hurt unnecessary.

Tua Pek Kong temple in Batam doesnt provide flower water,hehehe...have only seen it before in Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Buddhist Temple at Batam center,known to be Batam's largest Chinese temple. ;)
