Somehow your friend whom told you is right. However, for Thai Bahts, the exchange rate in SG will be better if you go to the right changer to do the transaction. This applies to both "Yuan" & "Ringgit' as well. IN Bkk, "SuperRich" offers the best rate, as mentioned in this thread before, but the minimum amount required is S$1000.

Bushnell's right, and daresay many bros here also note the more favourable thb rate SG (at right places like GM).

Like today, most places in bkk hovering close to 23.17 (saw some1 posted bkk airport 23.1?) -at purple SCB, green Kasikorn. Orange Thanachart at 23.22. UOB Thai always better at 23.30 (but few branches). Unless yours is big bucks, no point sweating over the diff vs convenience. And how many fortunate bros have got big 1k notes

And I still stand by the known norm that departure place gets you better rates (not just restricted to ringgit or rmb but host of other currencies) -caveat here is that departure place like SG is without forex controls. Everybody knows that most airport places esp Changi is worse off (even teller smiles at my comment). But we all need some seed money for taxis and the like.

so far, i have always gone to raffles place "the Arcade" to do the exchange as they always seem to hv some form of promos. so do take note and walk ard the 2nd lvl and compare as they hv a few there.

the best "promo" time is if ur changing to baht, go during mon or tue, changing back to sing, go during thur & fri. tis is due to personal exp so not sure is it accurate always...

Makes sense, as demand for THB goes up nearer to weekend (and reverse for back to sgd). Only trouble, is we never get any excess.. never enough pocket money, usually overdraft +555:p:D

Bro, just be careful of buying/selling rate when changing money. There's always this spread 2-5% (profit margin for changing hands). This gets worse when changing more than 1 currency to another.;)

yup, I am fully aware of the extra cross over of currency changing. And based on that, the rate should be much better than 23.8.......

Positive rate over last week. But it's wrong (and misleading) to simply say that drop USD will also have THB fall. Any forex comparison between major currency USD vs THB is inverse (opposite) relationship. Your sure win theory will make millionaires of us

I changed at the indian shop within the ppc. Not the one with long queue outside.

They gave me 23.05 for 1k minimum, and 23.07 for 2k minimum.

I've been also told to go to Vasu near Soi 7 Sukhumvit.. but haven't seen it open the 3 times i walked past.... hope this help u save a bit for a beer.. cheers!

UOB Thai's better than most regular (and bigger local thai bank) counters. You also have the smaller, lesser known banks like red colour (Siam exch?) which offer more competitive rates -but trouble is that they do not have same kind presence dotted everywhere. Then you have the "mom & pop" booths too. For most, marginal difference will not break the bank, but just feels good to have a better deal.:p

There's a big forex place opposite Central World, near Big C (Superich? forgot name liao) which has been mentioned in this thread with best rates topping UOB. But catch is BIG currency notes like SGD1k piece:cool:

Comparing apples and oranges. USD is soft not just vs THB but also vs many SEA currencies including Ringgit and Rps. If interest here is THB, how's development of other currencies then?
