Awas ! Drivers beware!!!!!!!!!

If you are driving in Malaysia, do take note of the advice below. Please
pass this on to your friends.

Subject: Avoid driving over newspapers strewn on the Road

It would appear that this technique has reached Malaysia from Indonesia.
Life here is getting more like in Indonesia these days. This story which
was circulated to me reminds me of the traps set in certain parts of
Jakarta by robbers. Some people have lost their lives over this.

They drive into certain lonely roads in Jakarta to find pieces of wood
with nails in them on the road. This causes their tyres to go flat. If they
get out of their cars, they are set upon by robbers who will take everything
in their cars, wallets, anything valuable and sometimes their lives.

Avoid driving over newspapers strewn on the Road - a new trap set by
Robbers. This incident happened some where in KL and forwarded to me by
A friend. This person was driving alone at night when he saw newspapers
Lying around in the middle of the road. Without giving it much thought, he
Drove pass the stack of papers. No one would expect to find heaps of rocks
and stones beneath the papers!! Wanting to know the damage to his car, he
stopped to check. Need I say more? The moment he got out of his car, he
was robbed by a group of guys and lost his properties/belongings.

Just imagine what would have happen if this had happen to a
girl/woman...

So folks, please be careful, do not stop when you're driving alone at
night no matter what! Avoid driving over the papers if you see newspapers
lying on the road, this could be a new trick for the desparate fraternity out
there!!

Re: Awas ! Drivers beware!!!!!!!!!

Gigantic,

U often drive to Johor?
My offices are in johor and i travel to johor daily.....maybe we can meet up for coffee one of these days? PM me your contact?

Well, i always drive direct to my intended destination, with no stopping halfway. Even at petrol kiosks, i ask the attendant to pump petrol for my car, i stay inside the car. When come out of the car, i look around before i open the car door. So far so good.........

Re: Awas ! Drivers beware!!!!!!!!!

No choice has to drive in....my business & office in Johor. Actually many people together also can be robbed....the robbers has more people ha ha, or they have weapons.

My office in johor had been broke into twice in 6 months....that is more i am worried about. And each time they broke in, they shit inside my office! For all bros out there who do businesses or who has offices in Malaysia, pls buy insurance, buy insurance as much as possible. Also, remember to chase aggressively for the claims, else these insurance companies take own sweet time to pay back your claims (if any).

bro plman2002,

My advise to you is, NEVER STOP. How much does a trrim cost. But your life may be at stakes if you stop. I would continue to drag my car and go on till a place where there is ppl.
And always remember to lock your door while driving. Ppl might just open your door and hop it while you are at the red light. They came in from the back and put a knife on your neck and thats it.

Cheong.....but must always be careful.

Somehow, I always got this feeling that Malaysia is one of the most dangerous place in south east asia.
I travelled to Vietnam and Thailand often, but seems like they don't have such problem. I guess, they know that their main income is from tourists.

Shit inside your office?

I think those thieves are Indonesians. I hear they do that because they believe in doing so, they won't get caught.

BTW, JB is the city with the most crime in Malaysia.

Hi Bro,

I actually doubt the first post. Sounds a bit like those rumours circulating on the Internet. If robbers want to make sure you stop, they would have put a piece of wood with nails underneath the newspapers. and not just stones. Like Malaysian roads don't have potholes everywhere, how to stop for every pothole you run over?

Not that I am calling gigantic_tk an alarmist but there have been many of these emails circulating around; some are real but some are just stories.

Malaysia isn't that bad.....

Anyway, one more tip for those driving around Malaysia. If you have valuables in the car, keep them out of sight. For example, if you have a notebook, keep it on the car floor, don't put it on the seat. There have been cases where cars stopping at traffic lights had the windows smashed and the robbers grabbed away the notebooks. The robbers were on motorcycles and they got away before the drivers even realised what happened. Stolen notebook and broken car window. Double whammy.

PS.
mykhel13, this happened in Subang Jaya, not JB.
