Hi Bros,

Interesting sharing for Jakarta. I will not call this as FR but I tried a call-in spa service at Sari Pan Pacific. Paid 350K for 90mins massage - massage was ok but the therapist was around 35yo and face really can't make it. After the session, she asked me want special service but I turned her down.

“RIM has been engaged with its carrier partners and the government on this matter and continues to make it a top priority to implement satisfactory technical solutions with its partners as soon as possible,” the statement read.
A test by the Post showed that porn sites could still be accessed via BlackBerry web browser, but the sites could not be opened on other smartphones such as IPhone.
However, critics are worried that such a threat by the minister would lead to another form of censorship by the government.

A polemic centering on the see-saw battle between the Communications and Information Technology Ministry and Research in Motion (RIM) which provides the BlackBerry services in Indonesia has stayed on course for a couple of weeks.
Not only reasons of pornography and security (which are becoming trendy topics) but economic motives are also playing an important role underpinning this debate. This aspect should not be seeping out to the public at large.
Many studies have for a long time investigated the need for obtaining a certain critical mass of the penetration rate to reap benefits of telecommunication development.
An empirical study by Torero, Chowdhury and Bedi in 2006 concludes that a 1 percent increase of the telecommunications penetration rate might lead to a 0.03 percent increase in the GDP only at a penetration rate between 5-15 percent for developing countries.
Looking at the euphoria of Facebook and Twitter in Indonesia, it has generally gone unnoticed that the telecommunications sector has performed just at a sub-optimal level in comparison to those of other ASEAN countries in terms of the diffusion of gadgets.
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) estimates that Internet users accounted for only 8 percent of the population in Indonesia, far below Singapore (73 percent) and Malaysia (55 percent), as of the end of 2008. Despite the massive progress of additional subscribers of mobile broadband, the achievement of a 3.4 percent penetration rate is also smaller than Singapore (65 percent), Malaysia (9 percent) and the Philippines (7 percent).
Undoubtedly, the existence of mobile broadband functionality attached to BlackBerry browsing services is supposed to be capable of connecting the unconnected people in the wake of the digital divide.
For reasons of fostering the diffusion process of the Internet and broadband and reaching the threshold of critical mass, the diffusion of BlackBerry services, which has reached 2 million subscribers in the country, has visibly played an important role in the absence of fiber optic cable deployment in Indonesia.
Although there is obfuscation over whether BlackBerry really bridges the unconnected people rather than merely represents another multiple subscription option among existing gadget users.
Besides the problem of the digital divide, the other side has actually shown tremendous performance in the sector over the last couple of years.
The telecommunications sector, which is a part of transportation and communication, has contributed to around 6.73 percent of GDP as of 2008, from 5.91 percent in 2003.
While the growth of the Indonesian economy has averaged 6.4 percent from 2003 to 2008, the telecommunications sector has reached an annual growth rate of around 14.38 percent. Thus for most of these years, the sector has enjoyed a more rapid growth than other sectors.
Therefore, it is not a surprising fact that the ITU reported that the total telecommunication revenue from the Indonesian market was around US$5.5 billion, or the seventh-largest market in Asia as of the end of 2004.
Hence, the need for increasing the benefits from the sector not only for the investor but also for the country through job creations and access to local content makes sense.
A different perspective assessing the telecommunications sector reveals that the impact on economic growth is only visible in countries with high levels of privatization as suggested by Mariscal in 2005 for the Latin American countries and Chakraborty and Nandi in 2009 in the case of Asia.
Concerning the current issue, relaxing the regulation on RIM’s operation in Indonesia will enable the provider to offer services at an affordable price at least for the next couple of periods.
Nonetheless, given the huge digital divide in Indonesia especially in the Internet and broadband penetration rate, it is hard not to include the role of the government especially by implementing the Universal Service Obligation (USO) programs which are, funding-wise, mainly supported by the contribution of private companies in this industry.
From a fiscal standpoint, pertaining to Government Regulation No. 28/2005, the contribution of the telecommunications industry is rather specific. It has to contribute to the non-tax government revenue in terms of the USO fund, telecommunications fees and the frequency fee.
Yet, due to the fact that BlackBerry offers handsets and services at the same time unlike other operators, this aspect has become unclear in this case.
Contribution of the telecommunication industry to the non-tax government revenue has increased from only 1.09 percent in 2004 to 2.53 percent in 2008.
In spite of the greater contribution from the telecommunication sector from 5.1 TIDR in 2007 to 7.6 TIDR in 2008, the USO has surprisingly fallen from 756 BIDR in 2007 to only 693 BIDR in 2008.
In addition, given the belated start of USO initiatives in Indonesia compared to ASEAN neighbors, the impact of the program is somewhat undetectable. Thailand launched the Tambon Internet project in 2001 with the goal of providing Internet access to all 7,500 tambons (subdistricts), which was accomplished in March 2006.
Malaysia also launched the nation-wide Internet Desa program in 2000. In contrast, Internet and telephone penetration to rural areas through the Desa Pintar (smart village) and Desa Berdering (ringing village) in Indonesia only commenced in 2009.
Thus, as suggested by the Communication and Information Technology Ministry, complying with government regulations means RIM would also contribute to the government’s revenue in terms of non-tax payment, especially the USO.

Auto-theft gets more violent, one life claimed

Auto vehicle theft has escalated to a worrying level with the life of a high-school student claimed in Bekasi at dawn on Thursday.

The student, Feri Ananda Sitompul, was a 16-year-old resident of Cibitung, Bekasi. He died from gunshot wounds by a number of thieves who were caught trying to steal his motorcycle.

Feri chased the robbers and tried to retain his motorcycle before the robber shot him in the chest.

Feri was taken to Cibitung Hospital by local residents but his life could not be saved. Feri was the youngest son in his family.

Feri’s death was the latest incident in the escalating violence and use of firearms in the recent auto-vehicles robbery cases.

On Tuesday night, the Pamulang Police arrested six members of a suspected motorcycle theft gang and shot dead Rusmadi, a man believed to be their leader. The police confiscated four motorcycles and a number of firearms.

Previously, another robbery on motorcycles involving guns also took place in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Baharudin Djafar said that there was a possibility that the number of auto-vehicle robbery cases involving guns would increase this year, because even in the first month, the police had arrested dozens of culprits and killed one of their leaders.

“Most of them come from the same network,” Baharudin told reporters on Thursday.

Jakarta Police data shows that auto theft has been on the rise in Greater Jakarta.

Last year, the police recorded 10,187 cases of auto theft, 91.56 percent of which remain unsolved.

Of the 8,649 motorcycles reportedly stolen, the police managed to retrieve only 704. Of the 1,538 cars stolen, only 156 were returned to their owners.

In 2009, police recorded 9,848 cases of auto theft.

This year, Jakarta Police data reveals that vehicle robberies involving guns have been on the rise since the second week of Januari.

Baharudin said that vehicle robberies had been trending due to the fact that it was very easy for the culprits to resell their lootings to the buyers in the black market.

Separately, University of Indonesia sociologist Otto Hernowohadi said that the increasing number of violent vehicle robberies took place mostly due to the lack of residents’ participation in guarding the security of their neighborhood.

“It will become difficult if residents depend solely on law enforcement institutions, in this case the police, to maintain security in their residential areas,” Otto told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

“People tend to become more and more individualistic in the city area, while they should have understood that neighborhood securities would depend on their own to watch each other’s back,” he added.

Otto also said that the motives behind the robberies, which have become increasingly more violent, were mostly economic related.

“The culprits see that they have no other choice to live other than to conduct robberies. This motivation gives them more courage to use violence if they must,” he said.

If you are in Jakarta South (Jakarta Selatan) which means Marriott, Ritz-Calton, Meridien, etc, you might want to check out these 2 germs I found. Usually, when I am in Jakarta, I want to have a good massage but at the same time a great ending. I never found any which fit my criteria. In Jakarta there are various establishment that is a one-stop complex.. places like Alexis, Malio, etc... the whole building is a hotel. Inside the hotel you have spa and or gym. Then also have a nightclub, some with strip show. Then of course there are also places with a special section with working gals (these are not FL they work for the hotel itself).

If you are expecting a Pattaya experience in Jakarta I suspect you are going to be very disappointed. Jakarta is pretty much the anti-Pattaya. All three places you mention, and much of the P4P scene in Jakarta, is on-site ST oriented. The market doesn't cater to tourist but local guys who have a wife at home or live with their family. Furthermore, Pattaya is ultra-convenient, while Jakarta is a huge sprawling urban mess. You will spend vast amounts of time in taxis if you try to move from one area to another.

Jakarta's strong point is that is has a very diverse set of venues, and the variety of experiences one can have is much greater than Pattaya. IMHO, the girls tend to be much better looking than in Pattaya. The Indo girls are much hotter in bed than the Thai girls. Travel Hotel frankly I have only been to the rooms that is for FJ.. and they are like Hotel 81 in Geylang.. I dunno about the transit hotels..

If you want u can stay at Malio hotel nearby, coz the hotel I believe is better quality than Travel.. 350rb for short time, for overnite u have to ask.. as I mention, if you negotiate with the gal directly shld b able to get cheaper.. but I've never tried so not sure..

Near Travel Hotel there are plenty other hotels that are decent.. Sparks, Astika Hotel, all around the Mangga Besar area.. check them out n see if you wanna stay there instead..

Near there however, there aren't any shopping centres.. nearest would be Mangga Dua Square etc if thats what u r looking for, around 30-45 minutes taxi cab ride..

Thanks to the extensive contributions here and some personal pm's from Bro Rainman, Adboy_ and Kemeski, I have just returned from a 2-day 2-night adventure in Jkta with a buddy.

We stayed at a 5-star in Central Jkta. The following is what we did in the 2 days. It is intended to serve as a guide to bros who are staying in Central Jkta but who wants action and finds it too difficult to run through the posts over the past 6 years (which I did). Bear in mind this itinerary is for newbies as I am sure there are more hardcored experiences in Jkta. But I think it is a great beginner insight into the scene jkta.

Day One:
Checked in hotel. We share a room with 2 twin beds. It's luxurious and spacious but still it's 2 batangs in one room. But my buddy foot the bill and I just free loaded, so cant complain.

Took a taxi to Classic Hotel Terminal. Let taxi know it's in Pasar Baru. Intention was to experience cheap f**k Indon style. Take a lift and press "2" and head for Terminal. You see one big entrance with a reception outside. This is NOT a massage/spa. That will be in basement and a bit more expensive. This is a out and out f-shop. Best time to got there 4-5pm Jkta time. 1 girl 270k, 2 girls 400k. The drill has been said in many posts, but I just want to say that the actual room that we were led to to do the deed was much better than I expected. I would such much better than H81 but about same size.

At around 5 or 6pm (not too sure) there will be topless dancers at different stages around the waiting areas where you chose the girls initially. There will be girls coming round for shooters - $50k per shooter, $200k for 6 shooters and they will lap dance. But dont get talked into it too fast. Ask price first,. They will offer first 6 shooters but dont go for that. Just take one first. But not really worth it la if you ask me. Just watch will do.

Next Stop: Marlio. Its in Gajah Madah but I suggest you take down the actual address as I find the taxi drivers here quite blur. Go in reception and they will give you a tag and they will direct you to the lounge. Unlike Alexis, no point heading to the spa straight away as nothing there. At the next level where the lounge is there are 3 halls. One is the Wine Bar where the cheap local at 350k are. In the centre is the "Theater" where there are massages and the bar on the right is where the imports (1.75m) and expensive indons are (800). We went into this import place and ate our dinner. Mummy came to us and we said we having dinner first. System is like this - Mummy sits down, you tell them what you want. They can call for the parade or one or two girls for you to choose. I must say the selection at Malio is good. At 6.30pm, topless dancing starts. After show, topless dancers mingle with shooters like in Classic

We decided to check the spa out at the basement. To our disappointment there are no girls there. Just guys in the pool. But at 8pm, another topless show starts. After show, topless girls go into pool. Instead of shooters it's plastic flowers. Again asked for 300k for dont know how many flowers. Just ask for one at 50k (I think). Quite cheap thrill. The girl will sit on you facing you and let you rub whichever way you like.

Somehow, didnt feel like calling for any girls, we decided to go to Dragonfly at Gatot Subroto which is a club like our Butter Factory etc. We reached 10pm Jkta time, it was Wed night which was Ladies Night. But guess what NOT a single soul except for waiters and bartenders. They said people come in only at 12pm. Gawd, on a Wed night, don't they work? Anyway decided to go to CJs.

Part 2.... continued:

OK headed to CJ's at Hotel Mulia. There was of course more people, a handful of WLs. Definitely better than Dragonfly. Unlike Dragonfly, this is a meat market but there are still office ladies with colleagues etc, this being a 5-star hotel. I suggest you either sit near the bar or hangout at the side, standing at the railing if you need WLs' attention. Anyway while many bros commented that this is less bule compared to BATS, you can see that the WLs are still more focused on the Bules, at least when the night is still young.
Crowd starts to really pick up at about 11pm onwards. Honestly we didnt find the quality of WLs very good. But acceptable. So we didnt really make any moves. A couple of WLs approached us, do the usual chat. We size them up and if we not too keen, we just gradually pay more attention to the band and they get the hint.

The thing is, if you can recall. I share a room with my buddy. Now that's the trick party. First we got to find a girl who works with another girl and who are both willing to do together in same room.

Anyway, to cut a long story short. One Indon Chinese girl started to make eye contact etc about 2 tables away. Walked to us with a fren (Indon) and started getting cosy. Band was loud and very crowded now. Fast fwd, told them we in same room. No problem. What about swapping. No problem. Settled on 1 juta each and we went back to room. We had nice party in room. Opened wine drank. Played with each other and fucked. Quite an experience having a foursome. At the end they chickened out on the swap but we are cool as tired too.

End of Day One

Final Part - Day 2

Woke up and breakfast. Headed to Fortune Spa behind Mulia's at about 1pm. Most hotel conceirge will know Fortune as they are they only major spa in the middle of town. Walked into reception area and they sofa area beside it is dem dark. Probably so that you cant recognise your colleague sitting there waiting for his turn. At the reception you choose the girls on a computer screen. Price: 280k for 1.5 hours. It does NOT include HJ. HJ and FJ price all negotiable. My buddy did not negotiate FJ price and at the end just gave her 500k without her asking and she didnt count. So you go figure. For such a place, my advice is just focus on the massage and maybe a HJ. My guess is that HJ is at least 200k. Anything less prob dont include stripping or maybe they know you local.

Back to hotel for lunch. Chill out and headed to Classic again as my buddy liked the place. Just took one girl this time instead of 2 the day before. Anyway, its a dem cheap place. Just remember to always take precautions. My advise is to even cap on BJ. Classics should be taken like an appetiser.

Next stop: Alexis at Ancol. The ground floor club (4play) only opens at 10pm. So we went upstairs for dinner at the restaurant. Pretty decent food and OK prices. Headed up to 7th floor to the spa. Take a tag and walk up the stairs. You can go locker and change into your shorts and robe first or go straight to the room to choose the girls. Not much difference either way. More professional in parading the girls than in Marlio. But for that night I think the choices in Malio better. My fren chose a Thai and was very happy. I made the mistake of choosing a Viet. We had wanted to choose the locals but honestly the standard of the locals, might as well go find in Classics at less than half the price. Once girl chosen, no rush. Sits with you to drink until you ready to go to jaccuzzi. They will change into their robes and underwhich their bikini. In the jaccuzzi, standard drill. First sits behind you and give you head massage. Then come inside and let you raba raba. Next to the room which is pretty luxurious albeit dark. As my Viet was a disappointment, I take it as paying for the overall experience.

Next stop BATS. We had no intention to pick up as we were totally spent. But just to drink to closing. Turned out surprisingly fun. Again crowd picks up only after 12pm. You see quite a few MILFs here and lotsa bules. Maybe only 10 Asians including us. We were standing behind the bar and facing the band. In the course of the night, we happened to hook up with 2 girls who speak good english. Thru the conversation they hinted a few times that they are not WLs. Anyway they were fun girls and lotsa of joking and dirty comments etc. The one next to me got pretty drunk and allowed me to take liberties. day1 arrival:
i didnt printout e-ticket, so there was a trouble during immigration in JKT airport. pls remember to print ticket. return ticket is required before enter jkt.
I first check Classic hotel but fully booked, so i proceed to golden>>Swiss Bell>Travel> Royal Regal but all fully booked. Better to advance booking before arrival next time. Today i got 3 fucks..heheh
first fuck: classic SPA with 19yo young lady, Rp550k.
2nd fuck: Classic club at level 3, 20yo young lady, rp275k
3rd fuck: Travel, 23yo, Rp350k.

Basically service given were better than thailand's massage or even Agogo.
actually i dont i think both travel and classic offer quite cheap fuck, lady dont even push for Lady drink. I will still stick to these 2 places for fucking(1 shot).

D2:
Malioboro: 20yo, Rp350k. there is >Rp1m for imported gal(caucasian, china, vietnam, thailand). Only those stupid will opt for imported gals, they are not so pretty and young. After finish 1 shot fucking, i proceed to club. no FL here, all in-house working lady, look wise worse than both classic or travel. In future i will not even visit malioboro.

Stadium: entrance fee Rp100k, forget it, never enter, this place look so dark and old. i dont really like it.

Crown disco: i really like the dancer here,, so hot and dance damn well. much better than pattya's Agogo. There are lot of FL, youngster here. To me FL here is too busy, always go to hotel nearby with client, i dont really think their service is good. There are still students here, some of them dont really go for fucking...sad...

D3:
Block M: too early to be there. no lady

Brew fish: rp100k entrance fee.

CLub 36: Rm100k entrance fee, forget it.

Sun City: free entrance fee. dancer dacing well. but lady: female ratio here a bit disappointed.

1. neaer to sg, more flight option and cheaper than BKK
2. 1 shot fucking here is better than bkk n pattaya.

“Local people complained about the consumption of alcoholic drinks at the street karaoke bars, which disrupt security and public order,” he said.

Place close attention to the confiscation of 82 bottles of alcoholic drinks and karaoke equipment including televisions, VCD players and speakers.

may be a change of scene is the answer ??? haha!!!

I've been to Batam & Jakarta and my personal opinion is you'll find more gems in Jakarta that's hard to get in Batam. But you need to check it out yourself and best to read the forums and get as much info then your trip would be worth it! End of the day, worth it or not? it's up to the individual! :)

There is not much left for foreign tourists in Jakarta. Severe traffic, pollution and little in the way of cultural offerings have dissuaded tourists from coming to the city.

It turns out Jakarta, as Indonesia’s main gateway, is considered no more than a transit point. Foreign tourists stay one or two days before heading to what they consider more interesting destinations like Bali, Yogyakarta or Lake Toba in North Sumatra.

“I arrived here last night and will leave tomorrow morning for Lake Toba,” Marry Simone, an American backpacker, told The Jakarta Post on Monday.

She was staying in a hostel on Jl. Jaksa, the most popular backpacker haunt in the city. The street is noted in the Lonely Planet series of backpackers’ travel guides for its cheap room rates and accessibility.

But then Jakarta’s traffic put Marry off.

“Once we’re out of Jl. Jaksa and get to Jl. Thamrin the situation is frustrating. Traffic seems to last all day long and we often lose our desire to explore the city,” she said.

This was Marry’s second visit to Indonesia. During her first visit in 2007 she experienced the same traffic woes in Jakarta.

“Based on my previous story I prefer Bali’s airport to Jakarta’s. Now I’m planning to visit some cities in Sumatra. Since Bali is too far away, Jakarta was my only option,” she said.

Jl. Jaksa may have an annual celebration termed the “Jl. Jaksa and Betawi Culinary Festival”, but the city obviously needs more than one three-day parade in July to retain tourists.

“I must say Jakarta is not that comfortable. The pollution is bad and we don’t have many things to do here. We don’t hear about many places to explore or cultural festivals,” German tourist Tom Reigner said.

Tom, who was staying on Jl. Jaksa with his wife Audrey, said the city was boring and dirty.

“It’s the biggest and the busiest city in Indonesia. But smaller and quieter cities like Yogyakarta offer more cultural attractions for us,” he said.

Audrey said foreigners like her and her husband were more interested in culture. “We look forward to seeing traditional dances and performances in Yogyakarta and Solo,” she said.

There are currently fewer and fewer people like the Reigners on
Jl. Jaksa.

Rio Udayanto of the Hotel Asri said the number of foreign guests had declined in the past year, replaced by more local business travelers.

“In the past couple of days we have had three guests, all of them were locals,” he said.

On weekends local tourists comprise 80 percent of the hotel’s guests, Rio said. “A few years ago most of our guests were European tourists, particularly French and Germans,” he said.

Overall, business is slumping in the area. Some locals who opened hostels for foreign backpackers have closed down recently. Some tourist-related businesses were also closing.

Ning recently decided to close his used bookstore on Jl. Jaksa. “The business ran well. I even planned to open new branches in Bali and Yogyakarta. But I had to call off my plans because I don’t have that many buyers anymore,” she said.

She has now set up a roadside stall to sell books instead. She rents the spot for Rp 1 million (US$113) for three months.

“I still have many books at home. But I can’t bring all of them here. The place is not big enough,” she said. (lfr)

Thanks for the report. However, the tip for HJ should only be 50-100K. Of course if you ask during the massage then she will give an inflated quote. So don't ask how much, just tell her you want a HJ if she hasn't already initiated. Then after the session just give her the appropriate tip. For 400K all in for a massage and happy ending, you might as well go across the street to a top end place like Delta.

Sharing information for Jakarta visitors: i went to Fortune Spa on Sudirman recently and had a nice GFE. No. 88, young and tight. When talking to her, she says she is selective and doesn't usually do this. So depends on your luck and skills I guess.

1st time in Jkt so Indon partner brought us to Hotel Travel.... Nice looking place considering tat it was suppose to be budget... I must say the quality of local gals in Travel is not necessarily worse off than Malio. There're some chio ones in Travel and some porkchops in Malio too. However, if Chinese (if u havent had enuff in sg) or Angmos are your cuppa tea, u may check them out. Chinese gals are pretty above average there but not the ang mos though.

Thus, it reaffirms the fact mentioned by some bros here. The difference in prices u pay is not totally correlated to the quality of gals but more of the decor and brand name.

Museum Nasional: The museum houses vast collections of prehistoric, ethnographic and archaeological artifacts, including one of the world's largest collections of Southeast Asian ceramics and Hindu Javanese art. The museum was opened in 1868. Entrance ticket is Rp 750.
Pasar Baru: Although the name means New Market, it doesn't mean the place is new at all. Dating back to the Dutch colonial era, it has been one of the main hub for commodities trading. And nowadays, it has been nothing short of a mixture of stores packed up in a very limited space. You can bet to find unbranded items with good quality and good price here.
Monas (National Monument):Jakarta's best known landmark, the 137 m monument is located in the center of Merdeka (Freedom) square. From the observation deck, you can view the city. At the basement there are dioramas that portray the dramatic story of Indonesia history. Entrance ticket Rp 2,500, ticket to the top of Monas, Rp 7,500.

A bit of information on which taxi company to take in Jakarta.
I am posting to help.

By taxi

Most visitors opt to travel by taxi, which is cheap and occasionally even fast. There are a multitude of taxi companies of varying degrees of dependability.
The Blue Bird group ☎+62 21 79171234, (24 hr) is known for their reliability, has an efficient telephone order service and always use their meter.
The Blue Bird group also runs Silver Bird, Morante, Cendrawasih and Pusaka Nuri taxis, They normally use late model Toyota Vios sedans.
The Silver Bird executive taxi charges a premium for a larger car, normally a Mercedes Benz C & E Class or a Toyota Vellfire).
Beware the false Blue Bird
Blue Bird's reputation has spawned a host of dodgy imitators, so just because it's blue doesn't mean it's safe. Check the following before you get in:
Door and roof logo is either the Blue Bird or the Pusaka/Lintas "flying egg"
Windshield says "Blue Bird Group"
Driver is in uniform
Headrests have Blue Bird logos

Some other large, generally reliable companies include Taxiku, Express , Dian Taksi, and newly established Taxicab. You can generally determine a good cabbie by asking "argo?" ("meter?") - if they say no or "tidak", get another taxi. Taxis parked near train/bus stations, tourist attractions, and hotels often refuse to use the meter and quote silly prices (especially from foreigners) - in this case, it's a good idea to walk away a bit, then hail a passing Blue Bird taxi.


A cheaper option is to take a TARIF BAWAH (low tariff) taxi - Putra (dark blue) is regarded as a reasonable TARIF BAWAH taxi, though not of a comparable standard to Blue Bird. Many of these "Tarif Lama" or Tarif Bawah" taxi are mechanically unsound and have drivers of highly questionable skill. They also often engage in determined efforts to overcharge.
The standard taxi rate (effective February 2009) for Blue Bird is Rp.6000 flag-fall, and Rp.3000/km after the first 2 km. Taxis marked TARIF BAWAH use the older, cheaper rate (flag-fall fare is Rp.5000 typically), while Silver Bird is more expensive. Tipping is not necessary but rounding the meter up to the nearest Rp 1,000 is expected, so prepare some change, or else you may be rounded up to the nearest Rp 5,000.


Beware that some of the less reputable taxi operators may use a rigged meter. If using one of these less reputable taxi you may end up paying significantly more than when using one from the more reliable Blue Bird service. If you have no idea how much the taxi fare to your destination should be, it is better to stick to the companies mentioned above, even the locals do this, or just use a Blue Bird.


Keep the doors locked and the windows closed when traveling in a taxi, as luxury items or a bag can be an attractive target when stuck in a traffic jam or traffic light. Avoid using the smaller taxi companies especially if you are alone, and try to know the vague route - the driver might well take you a roundabout route to avoid traffic, but you will know the general direction. Stating your direction clearly and confidently will usually pre-empt any temptation to take you on the long route. It is also not uncommon for taxi drivers to be recent arrivals in Jakarta - they often don't know their way around and may be relying on you to direct them - ensure that they know the way before you get in.

Here is some info if you are cheonging in Jakarta, I gather this info not my writing.

Blok M
You will find around a dozen small bars on Jalan Pelatehan. D`s Place, Top Gun and My Bar were the most popular bars when I visited Blok M the last time. English language is no problem here because the owners of the bars target their places mainly to the expat community. No need to come to Blok M before 8pm and even that is probably to early. I had the feeling that most of the freelance girls do not arrive earlier than 9 or 10pm. On any given day you will find at least 100 Indonesian girls there to meet potential customers. I did not find most of the girls too attractive but it`s possible to find a gem or two. A big plus is that girls are used to foreigners and most of them can follow a basic conversation in English.

Prices for ST or an over-night action vary greatly and depend on your age, appearance and experience. Some girls are dreaming of 500,000 IDR (US$55) but should be easily negotiated down to 300,000 IDR in some cases. I am not the biggest fan of Blok M but you should at least have seen it once when you are in Jakarta. If your hotel is located in the Kota area then its necessary to use a taxi to get to Blok M. Make sure you use a Blue Bird taxi as they are known to use their meters correctly and not ripping off their customers. Fare from Kota should run around 50,000 IDR (US$5,5). Some of the taxis that wait outside the bars for customers use rigged meters. It is a good idea to negotiate a fare back to your hotel.

We are always discussing about Jakarta inner city activities, here is some fun location to explore in and surrounding areas.

Anyer resort beach 160 Km west of Jakarta. Driving time: up to 4 hours.
Bandung — some 140 km southeast of Jakarta, full of universities and famous for both its food and its fashion markets. Driving time: 2-2.5 hours (through Cipularang toll road). X-Trans shuttle transport depart hourly from several location for Rp 80000.
Bogor — cooler climes and a beautiful botanical garden an hour away. Several great Golf courses are located in Bogor. Sentul A1 Race Circuit is located in Citeurerup, Bogor. Express train takes a bit over an hour, economy a little longer. (Waiting and train cancellations are the bigger issue.) Driving time: up to 2 hours. On weekend, the trip may take up to 3 hours by road, and the trains can be crowded.
Puncak cooler climes and beautiful view of tea plantation. Taman Safari Wildlife Recreational Park, Jalan Raya Puncak 601, Cisarua, Bogor, 16750. 70 km south of Jakarta. Driving time: up to 2 hours.
Ujung Kulon National Park, a beautiful national park, southwest of Jakarta. Driving time: up to 5 hours.
