Hi,Gd Day to all Bro.

Im Starting this new tread to let all bros Share,Help,Understand or Advise & be more aware of we singaporean wanting or interested to work in bangkok..

I haven been to bangkok For a couple of time..It was a really beautiful country regardless of cheonging,food,girls or the culture..It a wonderful place for a short holiday..But im wondering if any bro here ever thought of working or settling down here?..I suddenly have such thinking during my last trip to bkk while i was walking by myself along the wonderful streets & malls.The Sky is really spectecular on my way to airport along the highway..

After im back,everything goes back to normal & seems boring than before(prehaps my soul still dreaming in bkk)I met some issue at work & my holiday trip(& also someone special i met over there)make a great change in my thinking..Its not a bad idea overall to work in bangkok..Im actually a hairdresser.The fashion culture & hairdressing scene inspire me quite a lot when i was shopping ard the mall..The new generation ppl got quite a great taste in personel groomings..This make me get into the world of fashion in thailand..i calculate before..As a junior i dun earn much in here.living expenses is kinda high in sg,i have nv work in other contry before(which i always wanted to but dont dare or no chance)So why not give a try for 1-2years?If you work in bkk the salary you earn will not be much but living expenses will be lower too.So it work out to be almost the same as sg but i will get to experience different culture & happier(maybe worse?)than my current peaceful but boring life in singapore..The problem is language is a barrier so im going to take up thai language soon..Got to brush up my skill so im able to survive myself in foreign land..

Any brother here shares the same experience or thinking?Pls share watever thought or advise & job opportunities to bro who wish to work in bkk..Hopefully it will be a benificial tread!!Thanks in advance...

Most people who work/station in BKK belong to 2 categories.

1) Business owner/Trader
2) Employee (Posting to BKK from Singapore office)

Finding a job in BKK itself is a waste of time unless you can accept the crappy Thai wages or you have some special skills. Eg. Scientist, Banker, etc.

Since you're a junior hairdresser. Your only best bet is to do freelance for a start in your own rented apartment (very cheap anyway) and at the same time promote some beauty products.

Here's the downside. Setting/blowing of hair on average is about 100B/S$4.20. Are you able to accept such service fee? Unless you're David Gan's disciple no one is going to pay you designer rates. Also there's a hair salon on every street corner. What makes you think people will come to you? You've to differentiate yourself. I leave the brainstorming part to yourself.

A good way to kick start is to give free service. Hint: Night ladies aka MP girls and club girls. When word gets around that you're 'skillful'. Then slowly business may come in the form of personal stylist. Anyway in fashion/creative line it's all about bullshiting. 20% skills. 30% public relations/marketing. 50% luck. Of course chances will go up even if you can suck the cocks of those influential figures. High percentage are gays and dykes. Kekeke.

Just from my humble experience,

If you really die die want to work in Thailand, I suggest you keep yourself prepare these 3 things before you even take any chances:

1) Thai Language - This is the most basic criteria you must have, unless you're the top managment which you got your own translator or you're teaching language. But if you're staying in Thailand doing without knowing how to converse thai might be a handicap.

2) Employment Preparation - If you're planning to try it out in Thailand, the best is to get the job offer or interview from Sg first before going as if you're thinking of going there to find. I can guaranteed you the chances of success is 10% cos you can check out the website of the recruitment agencies, 95% of the ppl that they are looking for is LOCAL THAI why? Becos unless you're specialise or top managment or send from overseas they will not employ u. Firstly they have to pay tax and second in order to employ a FARANG, the company must have assets of 2million baht per head and third they will have to pay u a higher salary (minimum of 45,000baht to get work permit) unless kelong. It's never going to be lucrative unless you're going as an expat or you're starting your own business.

3) $$$ - Please prepare a sum of $$$ before setting in cos I believe the first few weeks will definitely drain your resources out cos you will start to go by the life of a tourist and slowly merge back. And also just in case anything happens $$$ is the best thing to get you out of trouble.

Lastly, if you die die still want to work in Thailand, I will recommand you to be a English teacher as it's easier to teach than to work in Thailand but firstly, you must have a TEFL cert before applying all approved institutes will recognised it. As now the education in Thailand are rapidly improving, most of the schools including government ones are employing foreigners to teach but the salary varies from a minimum of 35,000baht province school to 60,000baht international school.

Thanks to all bros for sharing advise..

I understand its kinda hard for me to secure a job in bkk,Better option will be starting a own business.That will be impossible for me at the current moment.The only way is to work fucking hard & roll as much $$ as possible right now so that i can have better opportunities next time..Dun think there will be any salon in sg which require to post sporean to bkk too..(Even if there is,dun think anyone wants to head over becos of the low wages compare to here,unless he is a fool like me or really "kan De Kai'keke)

Regarding starting out free lance in own rented apartment will be hard too cos require troublesome set up facilities Plus hard to build up clientel.but thanks Bro SOHNI for your idea to give free service to the nite ladies..(Maybe not free but exchange of service,haha)100b will be a reasonable price for a setting or blowdry in bkk..I can accept it if im living in bkk(but if need to convert back to use in sg,u can imagine how it feel..)

Someone special is part of the reason but not all that makes me wanna work in bkk..i know it will hard to survive on 20000b for 2 person..Plus it doesnt gurantee it will work out in the end even i go all the extent to get that low wage compare to sg...the gal may not even take it for long even if she accept me base on that kinda money..i understand sometime u earn limited $$,even if your partner doesnt mind but you yourself will mind cos u wish to give her comfort & luxury life..Sigh..actually lots of things to ask fellow bro but Shall discuss this in the later part,important thing is still earn more $$,improve skill & knowlege & learn to speak thai so to come in handy anytime..

To me,sg is not really a shitty place.A boring but peaceful one..Afterall we all live & grow up here so we should learn to love & appreciate it..Its our home afterall..If it make you feel shitty,should be certain ppl/system rather than the place..Cheer up everyone!!

Remember this slogan, if you want to enjoy BKK:

Earn your dollars in SGD, spend it in BKK. If you work in BKK and spend there , I can confirm a Monthly salary of THB 30 K is not enuff, including cheonging.

If there's one thing good about working in singapore is the salary, Work hard here , cut back on the cheonging locally and Spend it in BKK on regular trips up, ( it's much better arrangement) :D

Firstly, if your expectation is just only 20,000baht for a start, I 'm sure that there are ppl going to employ u but not by the book for the employer as I mentioned before in order to qualify for work permit minimum salary must be 45,000baht.

That means you will be employed like an illegal foreign worker like those in Sg without work permit. And you will have to settle your visa issue as you are on tourist visa, so every month you will have to go for visa run costing 2,000baht per trip. And you also have to beware of immigration checks on working without a permit but this one quite rare unless you damm unlucky to get caught.

I can tell you for sure 20,000baht will definitely won't be enough for you for long. I will break down the cost of the possible expenditure for your reference:

Housing Rent: Average 5,000baht including utility bills - this is already a very low figure as I'm assuming you are renting an studio apartment costing bet 3,000 - 4,000baht which you will be resting your ass in an area which the locals are staying.

Rent - 3,000 - 4,000baht
Utility - 1,000baht unless you don't have aircon will be cheaper
Laundry - 20baht per wash for coin slot machine unless you self-wash

Transportation cum food during working days : Average 3,750baht

Transport - 60baht x 25 days = 1500baht assuming you only take any form of transport except taxi

Food: 90baht x 25 days = 2250baht assuming you take hawker food everyday for breakfast and lunch.

If you are smoker then must add 55baht more per day = 1650baht

Your income = 20,000baht
Housing - 5,000baht
Transport + Food - 3,750baht
Tirak - 5,000baht
Visa Run - 2,000baht

Balance = 4,250baht

Assuming your tirak is super understanding and she requires only 5,000baht from you per month.

You are only left with 4,250baht for the rest of the month and divided by 30 days you are left with 141.6baht per day which is equivalent about SGD$5.90 per day. Not forgetting I had not included your grocery and necessities shopping and also if you or your tirak is sick, there’s medical bills and also you also need to spend on your hand phone bills or top up cards as well.

Above are just my humble calculations for your reference, actually you can already see what’s in line for you if you’re drawing 20,000baht per month but no offences to some who survive on that, but do you really want to go all the way to Thailand and be like that? I can assure you that the longer you stay with your income of 20,000baht, the poorer you will be and in the end you have to get help from Sg eventually and you don’t even have $ for your air ticket back home. Some might think its funny but I had encounter foreigners in this situation before and why they are stuck in Thailand for long is because they are too broke to go home.

English teacher was a good idea, only need TOEFL cert and can do. What about hairdresser in upmarket hotel - maybe rates better (unfortunately my hair more military type cut and not much expertise at hairdressing)

Why did you have the thought of working bkk.
I believe your main reason to work in bangkok is to spend more times with someone you have met recently. Many of us were in your present situation before...kind of in the dreamland. As a tourist in bkk for a week and living there for months are totally different. To be frank, i dun think bangkok living standard is low and i still prefer to live in Singland.

I also had a dream of working in Bangkok/Thailand for 20+ years and until today the dream is still unfulfilled.

As advised by the other Bros forget about working in Bangkok with a target income of only 20,000 bahts per month as a Junior Hair-dresser.

My advice to you is to carry on working in S'pore for the next 3 - 5 years, build up your hair-dressing skills, cheong less, spend less and save more. And also to enrol in Thai Language classes straight away - your Thai language skill should improve in about 3 - 5 years. With your savings make an occasional trip to Thailand (say about 2 to 4 times per year).

Lastly don't pin all your hopes on the Thai year whom you have just met. Frankly speaking nobody is sure whether the friendship will last. But no matter what there are plenty of decent Thai ladies who are willing you accept you as their 'friend' once you are able to converse in Thai and have the $$$ to carry on the 'friendship'.

Anyway, good luck to you and hope you achieve your dream

My Sg partner and myself are doing production work (TVC, advertising) there with international clientele and most of them don't speak Thai. Infact, all international advertising Agencies will put a Creative from their own country and we are the one that bridge between them and the Thai production team like Producers, Hair Stylists, Make-up, Lightings etc. In our industry, most of the Thai crews speak good English and we never have problems. But one big problem we faced is all the Hair and Makeup are done by Ladyboys. During big productions, if we have 3 teams of Hair and Makeup stylist we started to see them group together talking about male models and get no work done.
What I'm saying here is, there is a niche somehow and how you gonna get into that field which requires your expertise would need opportunities and how you make it happens. I didn't go there by chance but saw a niche in that market years ago and work my way through. Hope it helps.

Seems like my dream of working in bkk is further now..I understand the situation of living there with 20000b is not easy..In the 1st place if im really going to work there its my minimum expectation to SURVIVE,i know its hard to live with that..(No offend to other bro who did that)My thinking is just to be there for 1-2years to experience life.i know cant be able to gain or save up from that amount of $$..(Thanks bro Bkk master for the nice break down)Even im able to switch my mind from a current sg guy to a average local thai mode,dont think can hold that for very long..(unless i met a thai gal which is super understanding,dun mind to go thru this kind of life with me)then i can survive in a bitter sweet world.but maybe in my dream...(super admire a bro here abt his love life in bkk now,Keke)

I also used to hv the same kind of impulse when i was holidaying in Shanghai.
It's so exciting to be working in such vibrant and refreshing surroundings.
But still hv to face reality when my plane touches down in Changi.

Anyway, dun give up in ur dreams and rem there's always hope.

BTW, since u hv surveying the salons in BKK scene to tempt u over to work there, can recommend any good stylist salons for me to try when i'm in BKK?

There is really lots of gd salons ard,but whether you get a satisfy hairdo still depend on the stylist you willl meet..a bit depend on lucks too..same applys in sg..just like many ppl know david gan really famous,yet i have customer coming to me saying its fuck dup hair after trying him..(no offend to gan's fan Pls)

Its hard to recomend cos not familar & too many but I happen to saw one guy(Gay) at mbk 3rd or 4 lvl near a shoe shop pretty gd with his hands..Make me stop by for a short while to study..MY advise is try to use a male stylist(nvm if hes gay,even so usually they are really great with their hands..)NO offend to female stylist but male stylist are usually more daring & creative.Maybe its the way guys view at beauty differently..BUt prepare to be visually molest though..keke

The one i intend to enroll is telelingua education center($370 12 weeks) at orchard parade hotel..I choose it as they onl teach 3 language,mandrain,english & thai(publish as moe approved)as other school hv as many language as 32!!Dun really trust them..2nd choice will be lingo language school($235 11 weeks) at royal duno wat building at raffles place..

Any good school to recommend?

If I tell u I "graduate" from telelingua, u feel more confident or feel more lousy now???:p

Telelingua is the one that has the Thai embassy's approval. And they use native teachers to teach thai.

Anyway language is like this. U can even learn all the way to ADVANCE stage in Telelingua, but if you do not have anyone to practise with you, its as good as zero.

However to prepare for you, my experience last time was even after learning thai from Telelingua, go thailand also machiam duck and chicken talk. because no chance to practise in SG. Its only when u are in an environment and no one fcuking speaks english that you have no other choice but to learn to speak in order to survive. Its not only in Thailand. Its the same for japanese, or other languages even

For me, i learn new vocabs from hearing thai songs these days. and also sometimes practise with cat40 girls, if not get rusty liao:p

I learnt to Advance 2nd stage. But 3 months in Thailand is more than what I can learn in Telelingua for a year at least.

I paid $300++. Forget how much I paid also.

That day I go visit a Thai WL. I tell her in thai, I am naughty one, thats why my mouth always bad, because I like to play.

Then she ask really meh? And later when she let me fcuk I ask her to BJ me and I really CIM into her mouth. She immediately stood up and rush to shower and wash off. Then I clean myself up and she said I really naughty and know why liao. And she didn't even get angry.:p And she told me if happen to be some other customer, she say scold him and beat him.

SO the same kind of thing some other people do, will get a different reaction. Some better some worst.

Anyway learn 1 additional language also good. Next time use it to sian decent Thai Girl.

For U of cos lah,if u urself cannot get a grip of urself,then i think all other cheongsters sure "die" there.But heard that u had many tirakships in GL too rite?hehee...

For a start, you don't necessary need to work or start any shop since you mentioned that you have a girl there. Just stay at her place, do her's, her friends and family's hair. If you are really good, business will just come to you eventually. In the hair trade here in SG, you should know that there are some hairdressers plying their trade at home as well and their income are from these regulars. Be it SG or BKK, if you are good in what you do, ppl will definitely come to you.

For a start, you don't necessary need to work or start any shop since you mentioned that you have a girl there. Just stay at her place, do her's, her friends and family's hair. I cant stay there for too long becos of my work...the maximum i can be away is 4days..But think i really like there a lot,been there on 2 vacation in nov & jan..(make use of the public holiday then manage to go..)not just becos of the gal,but the culture,food lifestyle etc..Really dun mind to stay there & work as a average joe for 1-2years for experience..I know there will be lots of difficulties in long distance relationship..so till now dun dare to pin too much hope in it..

From my "experience" of interacting with some of the younger girls working in agogo scene in Nana,there ARE many who claims they are currently studying in the daytime in universities.But there is some genuine cases and also fake ones too.

Firstly,most of them like to claim they are studying in university in the daytime,since many guys like to bonk university students.

If i am not wrong,there are courses in Ramkamheng university whereby lectures are "held" in the afternoon for just a few hours.Not all university students goes to school at 8am sharp.I ever make trips down to bangkok from my sleeping nest,in the morning,stuck in the heavy infamous traffic of bangkok,seeing many students on the way to school at 9plus 10am.Maybe they skip lessons then i duno lah.This type must ask the professionals.

I used to have a "friend" working in Rainbow 2 studying in Ra Ra university.On one incident,i met her at 11am at Ekamai Major Cineplex on a weekday,for lunch and some catching up.She came wearing her Rara university clothes,and we had lunch at MK upstairs.Thereafter she suggested going for KTV session with me,but due to the fact i need to go home,before my girl comes back to the apartment to visit me,i declined.I dropped her off at her school in the afternoon just for the short lectures.She wanted to skip the lessons since most of the time she did it while going out with her schoolmates for shopping and hangout.I once met up with her after her class outside school,so the hours are quite flexible.

I cant stay there for too long becos of my work...the maximum i can be away is 4days..But think i really like there a lot,been there on 2 vacation in nov & jan..(make use of the public holiday then manage to go..)not just becos of the gal,but the culture,food lifestyle etc..Really dun mind to stay there & work as a average joe for 1-2years for experience..I know there will be lots of difficulties in long distance relationship..so till now dun dare to pin too much hope in it..

Seriously no offence,based on just 2 trips alone to bangkok,i reckon ur passion for bangkok is still uncertain.Try coming more to the country for a year,see whether u like it as a short term trip or a long term stay.Its pretty much different since the spending is different.

Many things are quite different from SG,weather,food,traffic and everything.

Not passionate lah,2trips were in 2004 when i went to visit the first TG with a kid in Isaan.After that,the subsequent trips were made in the first 3to 4months when i know my gal.I was there in bangkok everyweekend from Jan to April loh.So make up the total amt loh.

This type of thing cannot fake one mah,passport chops,tigerairways reservations emails as well as the "cheapo" boarding passes i kept all this while.

Thing is when someone is emotionally involved ("kongtao") already, really hard to tell him otherwise. Yesterday I had a client. A female. And she don't even look like thai. I asked her and she told me she is a thai and had PR for 6 years liao. Her english is like those kind of British English and she is holding those high corporate jobs in SG.
She was in my car and as I was playing those thai songs, she said since I can speak well, why never considered applying for positions in SG that sends SGpreans to Thailand and requires thai-speaking sgpreans.

I told her the money wouldn't be as much as in SG and I asked her with her qualifications if she go back BKK, will she get as much as what she is earning now. She said no unless she works in MNC.

The thai people wants go out of the country to find work and yet we singaporeans want to go there and find work. And can even compromise with a reduce in pay packet.

The income tax has got tier system, it depends on how much is your annual salary. The tax ranges from 7-10%(depends which tier are you in and company as well) and it's deducted monthly when your salary is out.

For example, your monthly pay is 100,000bht - 8,000baht(tax)- 750(social and security tax) = 91,250bht

At the end of the year, if there's an over deduction then they will reimburse back to you.

Basically, thats about it... ya, the witholding tax is THAT high! More than 8,000THB for 100,000THB DECLARED salary... in fact,its more if u've no deductibles to declare.... last advice i've given to a friend is that he negotiate with his boss to pay for ALL or part of the tax.
Imagine come year end when U got the bonus.... a friend paid up to as high as 20,000THB for that month with bonus! Heart pain......
But then again... no one says u've to declare FULL salary..... hehehehehe

So it is an offer (as in confirmed job) or just an interview?
If it is an interview, then U may have to bear the trip expenses yourself. Also, no point going over if U R not even shortlisted 'cos U may be competing with few hundred applicants for job.
Lots of time, in social discussions, business associate may say something in a moment but may back out when come to official commitment.
Not trying to knock U down but just trying to be realistic. :cool:

All these "benefits" really depends on u and ur company.... if its a Thai company and a Thai boss u're going to work for, its probably standard package:
1. Standard 13th mth bonus but if u're capable and able to bring in additional 40 million THB sales for ur company after u join, u probably get additional 2 months bonus....
2. 14 days... u can always ask for more though...
3. Standard package depends on company. Some Thai companies have no such benefits... but of cos being special individual, u can always ask for it especially dental benefits.
4. depends on company and u.. but if u're capable and really talented individual ur company might pay for an apartment in Thonglor which might cost around 20,000THB-30,000THB a month.

9. If u're married, should ask for spouse's allowances and visits or accomodations for spouse.
10. Oversea's call allowances for calling back family.
11. Company to pay for your Withholding Tax and Social Security Fund.
12. Work permit cos u don't want to work illegally....
13. Visa extensions....
14. PA to apply ur work permit and visa extensions for u.
15. PA to make coffee for u every morning....
16. PA who can speak fluent english or mandarin so she can translate Thai for u.
17. Nice private office with Bkk city view so u have have some private moment with ur PA when she teaches u some "phasa thai".

If it is a MNC, they should be arranging an apt of at least 50K baht up per month.

Becasue foreign talent mah. Unless the company give you 30K budget and ask u go find yourself, then many should go look for cheap lodging and potong the extra into own pocket. (This one I think I no need to teach also.)

Actually 80,000THB - 100,000THB is not alot for EXPAT.... so-so nia.... If only making 80k THB, how to sponsor a tirak with 30k THB?! 80,000THB only around S$3.3k leh.... 30,000THB is S$1,250 and thats around half of the pay already.. siao ah? :eek:

actually, from my observation, I don't really see the point of basing in BKK, as life as an expat and cost of living is Not really that much cheaper compared to Singapore.

If one is at that level of getting paid a THB80K to 100K, I am pretty sure, that mentioned person can earn just a much here in singapore or even more!.

Unless one can come down to the level of living like a local in BKK, like in SC's example of Living in cheaper apartment, and potong the housing allowance given and also one must Eat street food mostly ( cos eating only in restaurants arent cheap on a daily basis), then I think one should go for it, Plus Given a thb 80k-100K salary, One can only go Cheong 2-3 times a month at G clubs/discos/MPs/AGG.If one were to do that everyday..even THB200K a month would not be enough.

My personal opinion is rather to , Earn S$ and spend in BKK--in THB. If one wants to explore work related or job opportunities- i rather find a job that entails regular travel up to BKK, but still based in SG mainly..cos one does get jaded of BKK eventually.

brudders, thank you for your comments. will keep i keep in mind when negotiating my package. I think if everything turns out well, I will try out for a year and see if I can save. I don't think I will cheong all the places you mentioned. maybe will tackle a puying and settle with that. will try to save as much. in sg, i really cant seem to save. car installment, petrol, food and all other stuff. i try to thrifty here but i just cant so maybe i can try there. i dun mind the roadside food in bkk and i can always cook myself. hope it turned out well. thank you again.

Fortunately I was posted out for almost 8 years in the past 10 yrs. If u can get a package of free accommodation(utilities included), given a car(or transport allowance), and some meal allowance for your daily expenses, u would be able to save.

If you are based in BKK, u have all the time to look for a non WL, that would save u alot of $$$ as compared to the tourist. U save on hotel charges as well.
But hor..if you are not careful, get prepared to buy cow, or worse, be a housing developer, as Bro SC said..

1) It is not standard and company not obligated to pay.
2) 7 days as stipulated in the Thai Labour Law.

actually instead of Job opportunities, i rather look for business opportunities , would still prefer to be mainly based in Singapore, haizz here got no cow to feed and Cut back on the car , and rent.

I know some senior management pple, live humble lives, Stay 3 room flat and take public transport, My ex- Manager he takes public transport and guess what He RETIRED at 54...last year and enjoy his time now. IMHO singaporeans can tend to be How LIAN ( me inclusive)

You are very lucky, only paying for a couple of cows...Me paid for the building of the garden, pond, fence of the house + car loan. In out plus monthly allowance, comes to almost 500baht for a year.

But I guess it's a good lesson learnt for people like me who are stubborn before refusing to listen to others.

This very true unless you can prove to be a valuable and undispensable asset of the company, normally they won't employ foreigners who got thai language barrier.

At first I started to work in Bangkok, I was like...huh??? Even I could understand a bit of thai, I dun have the correct accent,grammar and vobcabulary. I have to work intensively on conversation before I can converse properly with the clients. One thing about thailand is, they still prefer to converse in their own language if you're doing business with them unless they have no choice.

Anyway, about the language thing..... well, I think it depends... I do know this particular big MNC who has factory in S'pore and Thailand which send one of its S'porean executive officer here to head the design team.... he don't speak Thai.... but stays in a 2 or 3 room condo in Thonglor with his S'porean wife... and his company gave him a car and driver....... I'm sure he has his own office too.... jus not sure if he has any beautiful secretary to make him coffee every morning and teach him "phasa Thai". hehehe
If u work in Thailand long enough, u'll know most Thai employees lack motivation and initiative.... so some MNC rather pay higher salary to send a foreigner to head and supervise the Thai team........ and he/she don't necessary has to be able to speak Thai..... :) But of cos able to speak the language plays a BIG advantage lah.....

thanks for the further info. me can only speak little thai and will take up thai lessons in bkk if employed. basically, i need to service overseas client and english is more important than thai. however, i believe i need to interact with other co-workers and thai is just as important. anyway, mth end then going. it is up to the package and the boss decision liao. cannot do much now but picking more thai these 2 weeks.

Well for starters a "studio" apartment with all the amenities of a condo can be rented from as low as B$5,000 (if you are not picky with the location), for that amount you cant get even a common rm in a HDB flat. not to mention cheaper food, transport, women :D You can do the math come December ;)

There might be a stickler though as new immigration rules last Oct allows those on tourist visas to stay up to 90 days only.....not sure strictly enforced or not....maybe expat bros there can shed some light

Totally agreed.:D . I had an studio apartment there few years ago at 4500B which is located at Ratchada. Food is real cheap by road side, say 35-50 for simple meal with drinks then.

Don't forget this is a big city away from home, can sometimes be expensive and pleasssse, you cant control tight budget everyday.

Red Tirak1099 - The tourist visas to stay up to 90 days is strightly enforced.

You need work permit to work in LOS. Without it, will be difficult to stay n work in Thailand ...can't open bank account, do banking transaction OTC and also other stuffs.

I totally agreed that working and holidaying in LOS are totally different. If you really want to work in BKK, do get an expat package or else the income tax will be a big factor in your overall income n cost of living in BKK.

U can open an account without showing your work permit. I have a saving account with Bangkok Bank, comes with a booklet and a ATM card which is also a debit card.

Anyone knows breaking into the DJing scene in BBK ? am a DJ myself and played in various SG clubs and in PErth as well. But i am really interested in going to BBK to play out in one of their various clubs there.. seems very interesting concept they have there.

bkk i never heard of a singaporean DJ. by the way, singaporean discos has a reputation of being lousy clubs.. girls i spoke to usually comment that singaporean discos are lousy and not fun and play old songs.. ( i tink cos of the thai disco djs) some of them went to dragonfly and zouk, and said its lousy as well.. maybe we are too advanced in our genre of music or we are indeed lousier compared to their RCA, Ekamai, and thonglor.

but a comforting note, i do know of singaporean DJs in vietnam HCM.. perhaps you can try your luck there. and i remembered its a big disco..
